Zhou wants to stay at Alfa Romeo

The Chinese driver is making his first season in Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo after finishing second in the Formula 2 championship. He has been Valtteri Bottas’ teammate to form an unprecedented duo.

Guanyu Zhou holds one of the last seats available for next season, his contract has not yet been extended. He had announced in Hungary to ignore other pilots.

“I haven’t talked to the team about it yet. I feel very happy and I’m settled in Alfa Romeo. At the beginning of the season, maybe I was worried about my future, but now I’m not so worried. »

“I have the feeling that I have passed the level where I had to prove my worth, and now I have to continue to be consistent, and of course, move forward, little by little, even more towards the end of the season. So far, I am very happy to work with this team. If I will continue to do well, and improve race after race, there is no reason for me to leave. »

Alfa Romeo is satisfied with Zhou

Frédéric Vasseur, the leader of the Alfa Romeo team spoke in the ranks of Car games before the summer break about the Chinese driver.

“It is important that he focuses on the next four or five races. He knows the rounds. I was a little afraid of the Grand Prix of Montreal, Imola and Baku because he did not know this circuit which is not easy, but he managed it very well. »

“Until now we have had a lot of reliability issues, but it has done well. I am very confident about the next race that he will quickly learn the layout of the circuits. »

Alfa Romeo’s technical director spoke last month about his driver and said Zhou was indeed the surprise of the season in F1. Vasseur added that he was doing well after his excellent race in Canada.

“He does a great job inside and outside the car. He’s a great teammate. He always brings extra motivation, a positive attitude, and it’s very beneficial for us. »

So far the Chinese driver has only got 5 points but he still has bad luck and reliability problems, but also the victim of a bad accident at Silverstone even before the first corner. He had to retire 4 times in 13 races and twice he finished off the mark. The second part of the season could be better from an accounting point of view. The team seems anyway very satisfied with his contribution for his first season.
