Volkswagen has shared details about the 2023 version of the ID.4 electric crossover, which is now being produced at the company’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The biggest news for 2023 is, first of all, that VW plans to increase production to 7,000 units per month at the Chattanooga plant, which means there may be some relief for buyers in the meantime. For the 2023 model year, all Canadian models will come from this assembly plant.
In addition, buyers of the 2023 model have the opportunity to choose a new battery pack with a capacity of 62 kWh, which reduces the entry price of the model (the largest battery has a capacity of 82 -kWh). Note that production of the ID.4 with this small battery will only begin in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Here are the Canadian prices for this model and other product version variations:
2023 ID.4 2WD with 62 kWh battery – $43,995
2023 ID.4 2WD with 82 kWh battery – $47,995
2023 ID.4 4WD with 82 kWh battery – $52,995
Output for the RWD model is rated at 201 horsepower, while ID.4 Pro 4WD models are rated at 295 horsepower. Autonomous figures have yet to be confirmed.
Additionally, there’s new technology as standard, including smart park assist, 45w USB-C charging and a 12-inch infotainment screen in the interior, as well as new seats with a recycled fabric center console and ” melange” and leather side bolsters, along with new color and trim options and a new center console. Heated rear seats are now available as an option with select packages.
Additions have been made to the safety technology category for 2023; includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking (Front support) with pedestrian and (new for 2023) cyclist detection, Active Blind Spot Monitoring (side support), front and rear parking distance control and high beam control (light support)
In addition, the advanced driver assistance unit IQ.DRIVE is standard for all ID.4 models, including Travel Assist 2.0 with adaptive cruise control, lane assist, adaptive cruise control with parking and go, traffic sign recognition and emergency assistance 3.0. New for 2023, the ID.4 adds Park Assist Plus with Parking Memory and Driver-Initiated Lane Change as a driving assistance upgrade.
Outside, VW added three new wheel designs to all trims, including two different 20-inch options, gloss black highlights on the front bumper, and new color options.
The 2023 ID.4 should start arriving at VW’s Canadian dealerships this fall, but the models with the 62kWh battery won’t be among the first; they should follow in winter.
