A great actor who lived an often tragic life, Jean-Louis Trintignant also benefited from a sacred talent as a pilot. He raced Monte-Carlo several times but also the 24 Hours of Le Mans, or the 24 Hours of Spa. There, we see it Peugeot training videos, intended to make a point to trade at the launch of the revised 505, in the summer of 1985, to eliminate the competition. That said, even in this context, the actor surprises with his natural and calm personality, while giving very funny comments and often revealing his dead side. “He vomits on the front wheels”, “There’s only one rear wheel that stays on the road and the other one spins”, “Oh, he’s screaming, you can hear him well there”, “Oh the engine, it’s terrible”, “you have to fight the weight of car and weight of years”… The worst valve will fall on Volvo, but we will let you discover it.
We also see that Trintignant pushes cars to their limits, sometimes more, but with complete calmness, and without closing the belt. A combination? Jeans and a pink polo shirt will do just fine. It’s another era, more carefree than ours, when you can spin on a Lédenon circuit with little or no safety features. Trintignant is not interviewed by a member of Peugeot but by another actor, Jean-Claude Aubé, who we will see in 1988 in “Man and woman, twenty years already”, by Claude Lelouch, with the great Jean -Louis.
