Volkswagen he first hinted at an electric car similar to the Golf R last year when he launched ID.X, a small sports car with no heat engine under the hood. A few months later, from Wolfsburg confirmed the arrival of the most efficient electronic model, but without saying when it would start. Now, however, we know one more thing: it will be called ID.3 GTX and will arrive on the road soon.
Fellows at Motor1.com spoke with Volkswagen executives during the presentation of the new ID to the media.5, SUV from the coupé line based on ID.4, who confirmed that the GTX would be based on remodeling of ID.3 expected to hit the market in 2023. Many expected to see it as early as 2022 (also considering that ID.4 and ID.5 GTX are already on the market), but a mid-career update of the model. was already set for 2023.
It will be powerful, but not as powerful as the ID.X concept
Just like other GTXs, the new ID.3 will also have four-wheel drive thanks to a second electric motor mounted on the front axle. The ID.X concept had a power of 329 hp: we don’t know how many production versions it will have, but Volkswagen has revealed that it won’t be as powerful. Considering that ID.5 GTX requires 6.2 seconds to reach 100 km / h from the stand, ID.3 GTX should be set at less than 6 due to low weight.
“With the identification of the ID.3 we will introduce a very interesting profile and we are confident that we will be able to meet the expectations of those customers who need the most power and drive four wheels. Our goal is to meet customer requirements”
Some may recall that, in 2021, Volkswagen released a series of identifiable IDs.3, the T-Roc Cabrio electric variant currently on the market. The vehicle is reportedly under investigation but has not yet been approved. It is easy to see why, given the demand for convertible cars has dropped dramatically in the last few decades.
