The Subaru STI is dead, the end of the page of automotive history

Undoubtedly, it is the model that has contributed the most to Subaru’s reputation at the international level. A multiple World Rally Champion, the first version appeared in 1994, catapulting the humble Impreza into the World Rally Championship. The US market had to wait 10 years to get its hands on the first STi in 2004. To everyone’s surprise, Subaru announced yesterday that there will no longer be an STD version of the WRX.

Maybe one day there will be another version

Subaru remained unclear about the future of this model which, let’s face it, was no longer selling. The small Japanese brand currently prefers to put its efforts, like many others, on the power supply of its products. Additionally, electrification (read hybrid) would be part of the next generation of STDs.

Decision changes

It’s a sad move on the part of Subaru, which in January 2022 presented the STI S4 Performance concept at the Tokyo Motor Show all decked out in fenders, red trim and the STI logo. We thought it was a taste of STDs that were expected to arrive in 2022, but apparently not. What we do know is that the current generation STi is dead and that the next one will be based on a hybrid system that will not use the current WRX platform. For others, we will see.
