The next Jaguar XJ will be 100% electric

The Jaguar Land Rover Group already relies on its I-PACE crossover and some hybrid versions of its SUVs, but the manufacturers’ electronic onslaught stops there… for now at least!

The British-based brand revealed a few days ago its intention to transform its factory in Castle Bromwich, England, with the intention of assembling future Jaguar and Land Rover electric vehicles. In addition, the establishment plans to start assembling these vehicles in early 2020.

Furthermore, the manufacturer has confirmed that the first car to benefit from the group’s electric technology will be the next generation of the XJ large sedan. As of this writing, the specifications of this new XJ are still unclear. But as Jaguar mentions in its press release, we can expect high quality, high performance and design worthy of the brand. A great way to honor a sedan that has 50 years of history.

Jaguar Land Rover also wants to invest in a large factory dedicated to battery manufacturing, to meet its growing demand for electric mobility.

It will be interesting to see if the prestige of the XJ name, as well as the brand’s electric technology, will be enough to save the large sedan that is struggling to keep up with the pace set by its German competitors. This futuristic electric XJ could rub shoulders with the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and Tesla Model S, to name a few.
