The new version of the Maserati MC20 convertible sports car

The sports convertible version of the Maserati MC20 2022 promises to come to the delight of fans of the segment. Because with a very beautiful color and a powerful engine, the manufacturer promises many other surprises.

Maserati is preparing to launch a convertible version of its MC20 sports car in the coming months.

The first completed prototype was seen in an official photo shoot before road tests began. A bit of camouflage and a production-ready model suggest it’s almost ready to be revealed, as the hardtop is now available to order.

The MC20 Convertible sports a bold new version of an old theme. Clouds. After all, according to Maserati, it can be changed. It will be Maserati’s first crossover since the GranCabrio left the market in 2020 and the first mid-engine roadster since production of the MC12 supercar ended in 2005.

There are no pictures of the rear, but the silhouette of this model suggests that it will have a folding hardtop instead of a piece of fabric – like its rival Ferrari F8 Spider.

Otherwise, it is expected to be technically and stylistically similar to the coupe. That means it gets its power from a 621bhp V6 biturbo mid-engine that accelerates to 7,500rpm and accelerates from 0-100km/h in around 3.0 seconds. The convertible should hit 203 mph for nearly the coupe’s top speed.

A folding hardtop will increase the MC20’s weight slightly. For reference, the similarly built Ferrari F8 Spider weighs 70kg more than its coupe sibling.

Price-wise, expect a bit of a premium for the convertible on the coupe, which costs £187,230.

Maserati has yet to confirm a replacement date, but it recently delayed the launch of its new Grecale SUV due to a semiconductor problem. Expect the top drop MC20 to follow closely.
