The new Lamborghini Urus SUV breaks the record on Pikes Peak

Lamborghini is preparing to unveil a new version of the Urus in a few days during the Monterey Car Week in California. A history of providing little attention before the sale, Lamborghini has planned its sports SUV on the mountain of Pikes Peak in Colorado.

In the hands of Pirelli test driver and hillclimb champion Simone Faggioli, the new Urus clocked 10:32.064, beating the previous SUV record set by the Bentley Bentayga in 2018 by more than 17 seconds.

Apart from mandatory safety features such as a fire extinguisher, a roller coaster and a bucket seat with six-point harness, the Lamborghini Urus was completely stocked. It is not yet known what new features this year 2022 will introduce compared to the existing model, but we can assume that it has more power, improved chassis and aerodynamics.

The front bumper has larger air intakes, there are new air vents on the bonnet, the rear spoiler is bigger and the rear bumper has been reworked. Lamborghini also reveals that this new Urus uses the new Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires in 22 inches.

Urus Evo or Urus Performante

The record on the ascent of Pikes Peak was set earlier in the summer, and was recorded by the race’s official timekeepers. The hiking trail is 19.93 kilometers long and has 156 turns, with an ascent of 1,439 meters to the summit. To put the Lamborghini Urus’ time in context, the record for a production car is held by the 2019 Bentley Continental GT which climbed the hill about 14 seconds faster.

This new Lamborghini SUV could be called Urus Evo or Urus Performante, and should be followed by a plug-in hybrid version that will be launched in 2023.
