The new Fiat Fastback SUV has a leaked image and debuts in October

After Fastback name verificationin June, Fiat it shows your silhouette A new compact SUV which is scheduled to start in October. The photo shows the utility side, which will have a coupe-style rear, with a sloping roof. For now, the Italian automaker only says that the Fastback “has a long silhouette, a large hood and a slightly raised rear near the trunk, as well as taillights and sidelights”.

Design by Kleber Silva/K

The design created by the South American style center will be developed in Betim (MG) on the MLA platform. Therefore, it is the same architecture as Fiat Pulse. The two SUVs will even be identical on the inside, but the Fastback will have more features, like a piano black finish and an electronic push-button parking brake, for example. Details, however, emerged in March Back panel image (see below).

The announcer presented that the Fastback will have a lot of Pulse, with solutions such as two screens on the dashboard (instrument panel with 7 “and multimedia with 10.1”), as well as Android Auto and Apple Carplay wireless and its Internet connection.

The fastback will also come with safety upgrades. In other words, it will have autonomous driving aids, such as automatic emergency braking by detecting pedestrians and cyclists, and lane control assistant and steering adjustment. Finally, automatic adjustment of the Full LED headlights and TC+ exhaust control will complete the list.

In terms of mechanics, the Fastback will only have turbo flex engines. Entry versions will use a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with direct injection that is currently the most powerful displacement, with up to 130 hp. Maximum torque reaches 20.4 mkgf at 1,750 rpm. The transmission will always be a CVT automatic with 7 virtual gears. And it has a Game mode, like in the Pulse brother.

The most expensive versions will have a 1.3 turbo flex engine, the same one already available on Fiat Toro and Jeep SUVs (Renegade, Compass and Commander). With a power of 185 hp and a torque of 27.5 mkgf, this engine works in conjunction with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Everything indicates that this will be a mechanical set, after all, it already fulfills Proconv L7.

Unveiled at the 2018 São Paulo Motor Show, the Fastback, contrary to what it seems, does not come to compete with Volkswagen Nivus. The model – which is large – should compete in the market for conventional compact SUVs, such as Chevrolet Tracker, Hyundai Crete and the company. The aim is to make it “one of the main players in the rebranding of the market”, as Fiat points out. If it will be popular, only the future will tell.
