the future in the form of a fuel cell

Aesthetically, there is nothing that distinguishes a thermal model from an electric model and another fuel cell. The Vivaro-e Hydrogen is available in two lengths, 4.95m and 5.30m, and the equivalent loading volume varies from 5.3 to 6.1m.3. Curb weight drops to 1,100kg (1,400kg in fuel) but towing capacity is 1,000kg.

The cabin is not affected. Three hydrogen cylinders are placed under the charging floor and will be charged at 700 bars. It is enough to be able to travel 400 km (according to the WLTP cycle). The advantage of hydrogen compared to electricity is the charging time: three minutes to refuel!

Auxiliary battery

The fuel cell, with an output of 45 kW (61 hp), is placed in the engine compartment; for start-up phases or for acceleration, the lithium-ion battery 10.5 kWh (power 90 kW), located under the seats, provides support so that the fuel cell system works under optimal conditions to ensure its life.

As in any hybrid system, the energy released during standstill is fed back into the battery via the electric motor. Battery charging is provided by an 11 kW on-board charger, giving the Vivaro-e Hydrogen an additional 50 km of range on battery power alone.

The current biggest shortcoming is the limited number of hydrogen charging stations. There are only 25 in France. Photo Opel / Stellantis

For daily trips

The Vivaro-e Hydrogen benefits from the cumulative power (between the fuel cell and the battery) that uses a 100 kW/136 hp electric motor, with a torque of 260 Nm immediately available, which is only available on many models from Citroen , Opel and Peugeot.

Thanks to the absence of noise and emissions (only water comes from the hydrogen/oxygen reaction), the organization is perfectly suited for use in urban centers and EPZs. To ensure the safety of pedestrians, in the city and up to 30 km / h, an audio signal is heard to warn of the presence of a car in front and behind.
