Firmship turns its direction from water to land.

The Dutch boat company has teamed up with designer Job Smeets for the The unique Land Rover Defender. They’ve given the off-roader a monochromatic makeover that gives it a more premium look.

Firmship and Smeets could not have chosen a better place to start their partnership. The Defender combines styling and elements like few other 4x4s since its inception in 1948. The latest iteration of the model, which was launched in 2020, is one of the best-looking vehicles on the market right now.

Because of this, the overall design of the Defender is left alone. The entire exterior of the car, from the bumpers to the side view mirrors, is finished in Firmship’s trademark color of RAL 7035. This gives the car a bold off-white look that we are used to seeing on a boat rather than a car. The finish is also treated with the same metal lacquer used on bulldozers to help fight unwanted scratches and scuffs. Completing the exterior package are British heritage white wheels based on those found on the original Land Rover.

The interior has the same monochromatic motif. Light gray is the hue of choice this time, though. There are occasional black and red accents—on the dashboard, gear shifter, and seat belt buckle—but the car’s leather seats and upholstery are all kept in a lighter shade. It is an amazing choice and works very well in tandem with the outdoors.

There’s no reference to the car’s powertrain, but since the SUV is based on the two-door Defender 90 we have a good idea of what to expect. The off-roader is available with everything from a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 to a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8. The Defender 90 V8 Carpathian Edition’s top-of-the-line mill produces 518 and 461 ft lbs of torque, which is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s a true 4×4, but it can still sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 149 mph.

Is your interest piqued? If so, you might want to to reach Firmship sooner rather than later. The company plans to build only 25 examples of this Defender. No price has been announced, but it will cost north of the model’s starting price of $57,845.
