Why is the IS 500 a little similar to your Lexus idea?

A little substance

Let’s slow down. At Lexus, the F Sport signature represents a fashion exercise. In addition, all brand innovations have their rights. Therefore, there is no special cachet; no extra spirit either. In short, the container takes first place on the contents. For the IS 500 F Sport, it is different, there are more substances. So, we have less desire to see in it a basic commercial inventory than a burst of pride on the part of a company that so far has difficulty wearing running shoes. Really!

Sports are no longer up to date, you say? Okay! So how do you explain the success of producers’ vroom vroom “branches? For AMG (Mercedes), M (BMW) and RS (Audi), to name just three, Canada is one of the five best markets in the world. The figures are as impressive as this one which shows that sales of converter equipments are proportional to the level of solar energy in the country.

Back to IS 500 F Sport.

Lexus management can usually access these figures and want its piece of pie. Currently, in the operations department, it is in the IS section (see our RC boxes on the “Specifications” tab) to restore color to Lexus. With this atypical sedan, competing with models offered by Audi, BMW and Mercedes, Lexus hopes to shake up the received ideas. But, for that, styling is not enough.

An idea in mind

As the competition turns to turbos and the electric fairy to compensate for the slowdown in the transfer of its engines, the Lexus puts the expected 5.0L V8 in the heart of IS. A certain efficient operation, of amazing sound, fully capable of climbing towers without shouting. Contrary to the current situation, okay, but Lexus has no intention of abandoning this practice soon. Already, with the help of the Yamaha company, this engine is preparing its transition towards hydrogen, another model of Toyota, the parent company Lexus. Until then, it is gasoline (and only better) that injects into the combustion chambers of this eight-cylinder.

Giving off a lot of noise, this engine sends all its power to the rear wheels only. In doing so, it gives the impression of being pushed forward, much to the delight of the apostles who are driving behind the wheel. That said, this 5 liter wipe quietly. It’s just exciting when the wheel slider under the cone points to more game settings. Thus, the printer run is enhanced by the box reports being rearranged to accelerate. The flight is consistent, but probably very linear to evoke emotion. The fault lies in the force of the torque, but especially in the automatic transmission where indifference can only be shaken by sharing the report manually using the paddles on the steering wheel. Immediately, the effects of this powerful train then erase any sense of weight. The chassis fits easily with the performance of the car, whose brake shows a pleasing performance, but nothing more.

Assisted with proper steering and not too heavy, this sedan is easy to handle – as are the rules and models behind the wheel.

You still have to be careful with extreme cruelty – and the battery-assisted electronic battery simplifies the control of 472 hp prancing under the hood. This applies to greasy or wet asphalt. In the snow, it looks more complicated. Most owners will prefer to tie it to a canvas protected from winter abuse.

In the dry, however, it is a completely different story. Such brilliance compels some of their peers, starting with the suspension, which had to be difficult for IS to hold onto the tarmac. The good news is that once the road is destroyed, the locals do not move indiscriminately, regardless of the style of driving.

IS enjoys a very balanced weight distribution, reconnecting with the principle of the rear-wheel drive, which greatly reduces its appeal to motorists who have to deal with the nuisances of the white season. To reduce them, this Lexus has electronic screens, which are very quick to pull the trigger. The result: instead of promoting behavior, they undermine it.

A little surprise: this sedan turns out very well and runs without much hassle in the city. On the road, it holds on to itself and imposes a lower level of fuel consumption than in urban areas.

If the interior of the IS inherits austerity (strong assemblies), its overall structure is poor despite the colored upholstery. Presentation is obsolete, tight. We must also recognize the unpleasant touch pad connected to the infotainment system. Its absence does not in any way facilitate the navigation of the menu and sub-menu. In the back, passengers have to deal with limited space. Just like loads on the trunk.

2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport

Before IS 500 F Sport, there was IS F (2008). The latter was the first to lift his hat to a 5L V8 with a direct needle. This engine previously produced 416 hp and 371 lb-ft of torque. This style worked in North America, Europe and origin in Japan. Interestingly, IS F had the speed of IS 500 F Sport and had the highest speed (274 km / h). IS F was registered in the competition. The IS500 F Sport will not protect brand colors on circuits. This responsibility was handed over to RC F (see other box) six years ago.

For many drivers, the reason has already been heard: IS 500 F Sport represents a much better option than RC F (our picture). These two examples have much in common. Same acceleration, same engine, same gearbox, same driving conditions. Only, the IS 500 F Sport is more efficient (four doors are better than two), more financially accessible and more efficient (acceleration and times). Even the “Tracking Edition” package offered exclusively on RC F does not change anything, apart from it. Designed for the song, this package ($ 36,700) contains features such as carbon fiber attachments, light rims and ceramic brakes.
