First, it has a wide bar that has, at each end, an L-shaped handle that can be self-supporting and can be operated with one hand. Two movable handles, therefore, are connected by a large central element.

During the launch of the Tesla Model S and its famous Yoke steering wheel, the manufacturer received several criticisms claiming that it was not very ergonomic, not to mention that it did not ensure proper grip or precision while driving. BMW has taken precautionary measures against these extremists.

The advantage of this design is elsewhere. With this steering wheel, the novelty is interesting because the driver will be able to rotate 90, 180 or 270 degrees without changing the position of one finger.

Finally something new after more than a century

It is in anticipation of autonomous vehicles that other manufacturers, like BMW, are currently thinking about how to change the steering wheel that we have always known. We are all alive, we have always faced that model of traditional steering wheel.

According to experts, this steering wheel appeared on our cars in 1898 thanks to French manufacturer Panhard, who then proposed round control to provide steering. This replaced the common lever used up to that point in cars, a lever that started the invention of the car.

Over the past few years, developers have regularly submitted patents for new steering wheel, but none have been approved. Therefore, no changes have been made so far. However, even if it is obvious that everything is about to change, we will still have to be a little more patient, because everything is not over.

At the moment, the future BMW steering wheel is still in its infancy stage. It will be some time before we see it in our cars. But it is very promising and I can’t wait to try it.

In fact, this steering wheel is undoubtedly the closest steering wheel that we race drivers use in our vehicles. What a great idea from BMW to come close.

Obviously, the buttons are not the same as those found in our race cars, but I have a feeling that the feeling will be the same. I already think that the position of the arms should allow for good handling of the steering wheel and consistent grip. Driving space should also be profitable.

At the moment, there is no indication that BMW wants to sell this steering wheel in the near future, but now that we are considering the future with this type of equipment, we can expect that in the next few years, the steering wheel of the automotive will change in this way and that it will change further. and more with the advent of self-driving cars.
