System 1 | The Ferrari president believes in Leclerc and Sainz for the titles

Ferrari chairman John Elkann believes the Italian team has the best drivers to pair on the grid with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, a pair capable of taking Ferrari to world titles and the highly competitive F1-75.

The Scuderia made enough progress in 2021 but had bet everything on 2022. It has been successful so far, as Ferrari has won two races and led both championships. The battle for progress will set the rest of the season.

“With five podiums and third place in the constructors’ championship in 2021, the Formula 1 season was already giving us encouraging signs,” says Elkann.

“But now Ferrari is focusing on the challenge of winning the 2022 season, knowing that with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the Scuderia have the best pair of drivers on the grid, who have started the season well.”

“We have to be calm, set up the car well because we know they will be able to use it well and we hope to bring back the world titles at the end of the season to Maranello.”

Elkann also commented on Ferrari’s overall car business, with the Scuderia looking to join the Endurance Championship’s Hypercar program, after winning the GTE Pro and GTE Am categories at last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“Ferrari’s GT season has been its best ever, thanks to the drivers’ and constructors’ championship titles in World Supercars and victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We also announced our long-awaited return to the WEC’s top division in 2023 and The Le Mans Hypercar program and this project are in full swing.”
