System 1 | McLaren gives Red Bull young driver the first F1 test

Red Bull junior Jehan Darivala will play his first Formula 1 match at Silverstone this week at … last year’s McLaren!

Darivala currently ranks third in Form 2 as the top one among the five Red Bull-backed drivers on the field.

The 23-year-old is in his third season in the F1 entry rankings, having finished 12th and 7th in the Drivers Race, winning three times over many years.

Darivala was born out of Force India’s ‘hunting for billions of Indian talents’ for an F1 driver and joined the Red Bull youth program after finishing third in Form 3 in 2019.

Tomorrow he will begin a two-day test with MCL35M which McLaren used in 2021.

It has already been confirmed that IndyCar driver Colton Herta will be conducting a personal trial program with McLaren this year – also in the MCL35M – but the dates have not been announced.

McLaren also has yet to announce which drivers he will use in at least two pilot sessions this year – in line with the new driver needs of 2022. But Herta and Pato O’Ward are in line with that.
