System 1 | McLaren F1 is disappointing and worrying in Business

It was a very disappointing performance that the McLarens presented this Sunday at the Spa.

Lando Norris certainly expected to have a tough race from the start, but how to explain that he finished in 12th place, while Ocon, who was also penalized, finished in the top 7?

Norris does not hide, the McLarens were suffering today.

“It was a tough race, but as I expected. It wasn’t easy to pass, and I got stuck in the DRS trains. There wasn’t much to do, but I think we did a good job. The little changes we made to the car this weekend made a bit of a difference, so there are still positives for take from all that. We tried but we didn’t have enough speed this time. »

“We will continue to work hard, push, look at everything in the next few days and try to get back into the fight at Zandvoort. »

Starting 7th, Daniel Ricciardo could have hoped for good points, but instead it was a poor 15th place that he collected. McLaren’s strategy certainly didn’t help the Australian, however the situation remains painful for him…

“It was easy to see that we are in trouble today. I don’t want to give up, but I knew going into the race we would probably struggle in the first and third sectors with the rear wing that we should have used yesterday. Obviously I was hoping to have enough speed in the second sector to try and do something – but we just couldn’t pass at the speed we had. »

“I know I’m not the only one who had a problem with the laps today, it seemed like some cars were faster than others on the straight and it was. It looked clean, we were definitely faster, but we lost a lot of time by getting stuck behind of cars… we couldn’t do anything. I think there were a lot of opportunities with this mixed grid, but I think Lando’s race didn’t look good so maybe we didn’t have the right package. »

“We have a week to go back to Zandvoort. We will see how we do there, and we hope it will be a good weekend. »

McLaren suddenly lost 16 points to Alpine and saw 4th place slip in the constructors’ standings.

Andreas Seidl, McLaren team director in F1, worried about this second half of the season with Orange?

“It was a difficult Sunday for us here in Spa. The heat today contributed to a lack of speed which ultimately set us back during the race. It was impossible to get a better result. »

“I would like to thank the team at the circuit and in the factory, as well as our colleagues at Mercedes HPP. The results do not reflect the efforts made this weekend. A special mention also goes to our pit team who once again did a great job at our four pit stops. We will spend the next few days preparing review and analyze our performance to see what we can learn that will help us come back strong next weekend in Zandvoort. We leave in five days. »
