System 1 | Binotto has mixed feelings about Ferrari coming out of Melbourne

If it was a good day for Ferrari in Melbourne with a performance from Charles Leclerc, the Scuderia was also disappointed by the retirement of Carlos Sainz at the start of the race when the Spaniard made a mistake trying to get back into the peloton.

Mattia Binotto was still smiling after this second win in three races. In the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, the Italian team now has the biggest competitive advantage.

“It was a beautiful day,” announced Binotto. “We are very satisfied but we know that every race offers a different environment. We will still enjoy today.”

“It was a very good teamwork, in terms of the settings and the drivers. The start of the weekend was not easy because we lacked balance in the car.”

“Charles had to find more performance and he got there by doing a good job. He got a pole, a faster lap and got a good win.”

On the other side of the garage, there was bound to be a little more to celebrate.

“Carlos will be very disappointed today. And we understand that. It was important for him to prove that he was fast here in Australia, and that was the case on Friday and Saturday morning.”

“He could have qualified well but he wasn’t lucky. And you lose your focus a bit when you’re ninth on the grid and you have a problem with the steering and you go on hard tyres. Those things shouldn’t happen.” I haven’t happened, but it is what it is.”

“I know Carlos, he will come back even stronger. I can’t wait to see him in training at Imola and I hope he can prove how fast he is.”
