Stellantis breaks new profit records

Stellantis breaks new profit records

The automotive group once again guarantees record profits, in an industrial environment that is still very worried due to shortages.

Difficulties have been increasing in the automotive sector since the beginning of the year, and a very difficult market facing a lot of shortages. Many builders suffer from their vision sales decline. But Stellantis is not one of them. Auto group breaks new profit records gross profit has increased by 34%. And this despite the drop in sales observed since the beginning of the year.

Stellantis posts record gains from US market

The first half of 2022 is like that the best recorded by the group Stellantis. The manufacturer has taken full advantage of the alliance run between PSA and the Fiat-Chrysler group. The operating margin increased from 11.4% to 14.1%. Either the same level as the German manufacturer Mercedes. The net profit of Stellantis has entered 34% increase over one year more than 8 billion euros. Good financial health that saves the drop in sales figures. Amount of worldwide sales are about -7%.

In detail, it is the North American and South American markets that boost Stellantis’ figures the most. In North America, the amount of sales is thus increasing 959,000 cars were sold in the first half compared to 873,000 last year. With a 18% operating margin. In South America, operating margin also explodes with an increase of 7% over a year, as it went from 6.6% to 13.9%. These excellent figures can be explained, among other things, by the increase in prices used by the Jeep brand.

The situation is similar in the Middle East/Africa and Asia markets, where the car group is making significant progress in terms of operational level, despite stable sales levels.

It is finally in Europe where the situation is smaller to Stellantis. Operating margin increased slightly by 1.5%. Sales volume, on the other hand, is in decrease in strength and 1.3 million cars sold in the first half of 2022. This is 300,000 less cars only in the first half of 2021.

Cars are still among the top sellers in Europe

Despite the drop in sales in Europe, the cars of the Stellantis group brands remain among the best sellers on the Old Continent. This is especially the case in The SUV market where, for example, Peugeot places 2 models in the top 10 sales. The Peugeot 2008 therefore comes in 4th and 8th place for the 3008 with 73,400 and 64,350 versions sold. A success that is also true for the city car of the Simba brand, the 208, which becomes the best-selling car in Europe in the first half with 110,200 units sold. So it is ahead of the Volkswagen Golf, third in the standings.

Another source of satisfaction for the Stellantis group in Europe is the sale of electric vehicles. They increased by 50% in one year and 136,000 cars were sold. Among the most popular models, we find especially the electric Fiat 500, which is setting sales records. So this puts Stellantis on second place in sales of electric cars in 2022 in Europe, behind Volkswagen.

Despite this favorable picture for Stellantis, the next few months may be very difficult. The car group first revised its sales figures downward, and it is expected to decrease by 12% in Europe and 8% in the North American market. Furthermore, the threat of a possible recession in Europe and especially in France calls for caution. More so since the US also has a risk of entry recession to fall. Economic threats that come on top of the global energy crisis and the war in Ukraine. Threats that do not worry, at the moment, the management of Stellantis, which shows its confidence for this year 2022.
