SsangYong Motors has entered recapture mode and is accelerating the renewal of its range with special attention to electric models. The first model involved is none other than the Korando e-Motion, whose production began on June 14, 2021 in Korea. It will be followed in 2022 by a mid-size SUV dubbed the J100. In addition to the electrification of its models, SsangYong will also focus on its development in driving assistance.
The first step in this revival of the brand, SsangYong Korando e-Motion is the first electric SUV expected to arrive in Europe by August 2021, as long as the shortage of electronic chips does not affect the process too much. The Korando e-Motion has an electric motor on the front axle with a maximum power of 190 hp powered by a 61.5 kWh battery according to our colleagues at AutoExpress.
But this Korando e-Motion will soon be followed by a full range of electric models, SsangYong plans to launch a mid-size SUV called J100 (E100 for Korando) which will be modern and realistic with style features based on SsangYong’s design language make a strong and safe SUV. Also on the program, although we don’t know if it will be distributed in Europe, an electric pick-up will be released later. The J100 is expected to hit the market sometime in 2022.
