Rock in Rio, MTV? See 8 cars that brands tried to associate with music

For many years, Volkswagen has sponsored Rock in Rio and launched cars related to the festival. The goal is to reach a young audience, to provide a cool studio car. This year the brand did not launch a series with the name “Rock in Rio”, but made Nivus “Official SUV of the festival”.

We isolated five vehicles that were associated with music businesses. Some have become rare, others are plentiful in used stores out there…

Fox, Gol and Saveiro Rock in Rio (2013, 2015 and 2016)

Volkswagen has associated its name with the Rio de Janeiro festival for more than ten years. It was launched in three previous versions Rock in Rio de Gol, Fox and Saveiro. Fox did the best, as the model had a proposition that appealed more to young people. That’s why he was in the lineup in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

In 2013 it was sold with a 1.6 liter engine and interior decoration of the seats and dashboard with red accents. In later years he also received the package in version 1.0. The two-cabin Saveiro, unusual, also had its own version of Rock in Rio in 2015.

Mazda Rock in Rio (2015)

Mazda sponsored Rock in Rio Lisboa. Yes, Rock in Rio became a franchise held in other cities around the planet. In the 2015 edition, Mazda launched in Portugal a line with three cars with the “Rock in Rio” stamp.

Mazda CX-3, which we have already talked about here at Turboway, Mazda 3 and MX-5. According to the brand, 30 cars of these models were given to the organization of the event to implement the equipment of the festival. Unfortunately Mazda does not sell its cars in Brazil.

Onix Lollapalooza (2014)

Inspired by the Lollapalooza festival, which was its sponsor, Chevrolet left the Onix cool with a multimedia center, alloy wheels and festival stickers. The engine is the old vita 1.0 engine of the old Onix and which even equipped the Corsa and Prisma.

The Rolling Stones (1995)

The streak that scored the ball at the beginning of the model. It happened that in 1995 the Rolling Stones included South America in the “Voodoo Lounge” tour and concerts were held in Rio and São Paulo.

The car had a Gol 1.6 two-door, with green windows, and came with a cassette player and a tape from the tour album. It was sold in black, white, red and blue. Don’t even think it’s a rare line to find… According to Denatran there are about 12 thousand Rolling Stones Targets across the country.

After Brazil the band went to Argentina and in Volkswagen they also took advantage of the momentum and released “Gol Rolling Stones” there. But it had a difference: it was still a square Gol, as Volkswagen had not yet changed the line there.

Fiorino MTV (1997) and Siena MTV (1998)

For those of a younger age, it may seem strange to associate a commercial vehicle like the Fiorino with a young brand. Well, know that in 1997 Fiorino had both open and closed bucket versions.

Among the open body versions was “Trekking”, which had accessories and stickers to make the car “cool”. Fiat’s idea was to associate the car with the “MTV Series”. Then the Fiorino Trekking was replaced by the Fiat Strada and Fiat even launched in 1998 the “Siena Sport MTV” which had a 1.6 liter engine and alloy wheels.
