As you all know and I have already commented here, the group of 100% electric cars sold in Brazil is still small, but the popularity process remains positive thanks to the new models that keep arriving. This is the case with the electric version of the Peugeot 208, the e-208 GT, which is not recent, as it was launched there in September 2021.

In terms of appearance, it is practically the same as the combustion version and takes advantage of it, as the design of this compact is beautiful and well resolved. Small exterior differences are in details such as the specially designed grille with a gloss black finish, unique wheels with an aerodynamic design, plastic moldings on the wheels in gloss black as well, as well as the letter “e” on the rear pillars that indicate that it is an electric version, and the name is stamped on the trunk lid.

And it has a more attractive 208 front end with full LED headlights and DRLs with a saber-tooth design, just like the higher-end versions of the combustion model.

Inside, again, it’s the same as the 208 we know, but with a large degree of refinement. It brings more rubbery surfaces, more details integrated in the body color, a slightly larger multimedia screen, with 10 inches.

Inside there is a space with some commands that are activated by touch and which are located above the keys that resemble a piano keyboard, another part that he already knows, as well as a 100% digital instrument panel with a “3D” effect. center console with gearshift lever, similar to the attractive 3008 SUV.

Now, for me, what closes the bill well in the electric 208, is the well-known i-cockpit project, exclusive to Peugeot, with a small steering wheel that must be placed under the instrument panel to ensure good ergonomics behind the wheel. .. This other strong point is reinforced in the e-208 GT with sports seats with good lateral support.

Since it comes in a sealed and well-equipped package, it is also worth considering because of the high level of security. The E-208 GT comes as standard with ADAS, a package that brings together some non-autonomous driving features, such as cruise control, collision warning and automatic braking and lane departure – which works by adjusting the trajectory – among other very modern ones. and important. Not to mention the others that are more expected in a model of this level, such as 06 airbags or disc brakes on all four wheels.

Power steering is key

Like all cars with this range of motion, the e-208 GT arouses curiosity about what it’s like to accelerate this electric compact. After all, when talking about the desire to accelerate, we immediately remember the lack of desire to start quickly that the new combustion 208 has been from the beginning.

The E-208 GT has 136 horsepower – which is not an absurd number – but it is very suitable for the size and purpose of this car. However, what is really important: it offers 26.5 Kgfm of torque – available in any condition – like a good electric car.

According to official figures, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.3 seconds, which gives satisfaction and safety to those who drive the wheel, as well as proving a very different reality compared to the 208 combustion. In practice, it has everything we would like to see in this instance, at least in one of its versions.

The suspension, on the other hand, follows a sports recommendation, so it is a little stiff, and the tires are of a low profile, run flat. With this configuration, it can even give a little annoyance, but far from affecting the comfort.

To accelerate, it offers three driving modes: Eco, Normal and Sport. The first introduces energy regeneration as soon as the driver takes his foot off the accelerator, braking the car and slowing down. Sport, on the other hand, improves engine response and, remember, increases battery consumption. It has a “B” mode on the gear lever, which also uses engine braking to help regenerate energy.

Caution and recharge

My experience during the week using the e-208 GT was not very good with the range management and charging stations. The electric 208 has 50 kWh batteries and an expected range of 340 km. However, in practice, a lot of attention is required with the rapid consumption of energy, even taking “preventive” precautions for comfort, such as preventing the use of air conditioning.

Then, for those who risk using a simple socket at home, they need to plan to spend the day with the car off the charge. That is, the best is to invest in a home fast charging device – which is not cheap – or be very smart and stay close to fast charging stations while driving, in which case it is possible to charge up to 80% of the battery in 30 minutes, as reported by Peugeot.

In this context, the e-208 GT is a very pleasant car, beautiful, with great aerodynamics and, as I said before, it guarantees more comfort and safety during acceleration with its electric motor full of energy. And, like all electric cars sold in Brazil 100%, they have a very high price. In any case, it also fulfills its role as a promoter of electric mobility in our country and, naturally, conveys Peugeot’s message about what it has and hopes to use in its cars in the future.
