Although it was believed to be untouchable until the end of its career, the Peugeot 3008 “2” shows clear signs of weakness in this first half of 2022. To the point of seeing it lowered to levels never seen before.
Ogre, king, bestseller, leader… Since 2017, the first full year of sales, all the best attributes have been used to describe the commercial success of the Peugeot 3008 “2”. It should be said that since its launch, the second generation has regularly appeared on the sales podium in France, where one finds the cheapest models there.. Above all, regardless of its classification, the 3008 has always crushed its direct competitors Renault Kadjar, Nissan Qashqai, Citroën C5 Aircross and other VW Tiguans. Apart from the health and industrial crisis, the Simba SUV has not experienced a traditional sales decline in three years. And its apparent facelift for 2020, of course, hasn’t boosted sales in a good way.
But while Peugeot is busy replacing him, the untouchable from Sochaux finally seems to be giving up in 2022… Between January and July, it shows a decrease of 40% compared to the first 7 months of 2021, and more than 20,000 units were sold (8). It certainly remains the best-selling compact SUV, but competitor trends could see it lose that spot before the end of the year. The fall is sharper among individuals (- 53%) where it ranks only 25th!

More intense competition
This negative result, which has never happened to him, can be explained by several factors. Although this second generation has not lost its driving qualities and balance, it no longer surprises anyone. Surprisingly on its release, the Frenchman has been found on every street corner for several years, causing some fatigue among buyers. The solution is more likely that on the contrary, other rivals perform better than the 3008. In front of which is the Renault Arkana, more original in form and ability to count on cheap and already non-chargeable hybrid engines. We can also mention the Hyundai Tucson, which attracts more people than the Peugeot SUV. Again, the Korean can rely on new plastics but also a wide range of engines and several electric / gasoline versions.
Finally, the role of the new 308 should not be overlooked. Victims of a lack of features during its commercial launch, this third generation took a little time to take off, but now it seems to be on a good trajectory.. Long relegated to the ranks behind the 3008 because it can’t live with techno, the 308 has set the record straight. And it may even be based on a station wagon variant with a family capacity at least equal to that of its older brother as well as the 180 hp PHEV version starting at €37,590 for the sedan and €38 in the station wagon when the 225 hp 3008 PHEV requires. at least €46,450…
