Penn Kalets return to the land of abers their heads are full of memories after the human invasion in Europe – Landéda

Penn kalet (hard heads in Breton) are back in the land of abers! Gwenola Castel (from Landéda), Emma Salaün (from Lilia-Plouguerneau) and Laurine Mille (from Lannilis), 22- and 23-year-old girls full of energy and participation, have been resting for a few days after participating in the Europ championship. The ‘Raid, a 10,000 km journey in a Peugeot 205 in twenty countries that brought together 280 crew members. Originally planned for 2020 but postponed due to Covid-19, it took place across Europe for three weeks in August 2022.

“We saw a bear in Romania”

It is with their heads full of memories that they are happy to return to their Northern Brittany. “It was amazing! A great experience to repeat! We saw beautiful scenery. We also met three bears watching us as we passed through Romania! We loved Switzerland and its scenery so much, we went ziplining in Montenegro. In Albania, we donated school supplies that were the theme of our trip : there is a big difference in the standard of living with France. The school children gave us a small show of dances and songs and we played football and other games”.

We had forgotten our passport, which caused a bit of worry at the borders. But everything went well.

Camp and night in hotel

They add: “We had forgotten our passport, which caused a bit of anxiety at the borders. But everything went well. We had little contact with the population, we missed, but the goal was human and six hours of driving a day. We were camping, but we let ourselves overnight in a B&B in Budapest, Hungary, with a real bed and a real bathroom! »

Solidarity existed between the workers and in the event of a breakdown, the cars stopped to lend a hand, even if the organization was ready to intervene. “We were three, but some workers were four, like the one who took a friend in a wheelchair”.

Training… before a tour of Europe by train?

Each will now continue their studies: Emma in master 2 in Guadeloupe, Laurine in Rennes in the school of environmental engineering for two more years, and Gwenola in Caen. “Another different punishment? Why not, but not immediately. We can for example imagine a tour of Europe by train and pass between the rails for young people, or a tour of Brittany by bike”.
