It was in 2013 that the QX60 was born at Infiniti. In fact, for its first year on the market, we were talking about the JX; this was before the company changed the nomenclature of all its models in 2014 to make them adopt the letter Q.
So it’s been almost 10 years since then, which is a huge delay in continuing with product renewal. Still, the time has come as the second generation of the model is about to start with a new and improved model, a design that tells us how things will be for future new products from the brand.
Let’s look at the most important changes regarding this second cuvée.
Infiniti talks about the new signature of its products and it is. However, this is a continuation, when one easily recognizes the Infiniti product. Of course, the big grid has something to do with it. However, we see a very different treatment for the length of the headboards, as well as a very horizontal profile line, even considering the hood. The head of design at Infiniti, Alfonso Albaisa, was referring to what could be interpreted as horizontal muscle placement. So!
If there’s one part of a car that makes our eyes grow, it’s the rear. The lines, the design of the lights, the daring character in general, is rather successful.
Moreover, the call does not change when we get the same dimensions and the same configuration of the interior with seven areas.
Inside, the presentation has definitely been revised. The images shown make us discover an ordinary, but tasteful environment. Even the “floating” screen, which sits on a flat section in front of the top of the dashboard, is well integrated. On the console, there are traditional controls and everything seems well designed in terms of ergonomics.
Above all, a sense of richness is seen from the whole. Alfonso Albaisa was talking about the details, such as the stitching and the abundance of leather inside; seen in the picture.
Otherwise, you can imagine, there will be no shortage of equipment, from safety features to driving equipment, including a head-up display on a 10.8-inch screen. As for the screens (multimedia and in front of the driver), both are 12.3 inches. Surprisingly, the connection can be made wirelessly for the Apple CarPlay software, but you will still have to use its cable for Android Auto. A process, it is said, that can be corrected.
The model also retains its rear seats that can accommodate a child seat AND recline forward while leaving enough room to reach the third row. As for the front seats, they finally benefit from Nissan’s “zero gravity” technology.
At the heart of the new QX60 will be a 3.5-liter V6 engine that announces a capacity of 295 horses. This mechanism will work together with a nine-speed automatic gearbox, as we saw in the new Pathfinder from Nissan. This is an important philosophical break for a manufacturer that only swore by a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for its model. This time, we are not playing the designer; The company explains that it responded to requests from customers who wanted better towing capacity, which the new mechanical combination allows. So the limit increases from 5,000 to 6,000 pounds.
All models will of course benefit from all-wheel drive, a fairly revised unit that the company promises to be better and more active/durable. Another feature that has been modified is the ProPilot semi-autonomous operating system. This promises to be more persuasive and more free, especially thanks to the link and navigation system.
For others, of course it is when we contact the model that we can take the best measure. The pandemic-forced online presentations and sometimes delayed test drives make it even more difficult to appreciate the car in advance. Therefore, it is important to keep a small reserve.
During our first contact, we will be able to return to the mentioned features, but also take a long tour of the car, especially to discuss its Bose audio system with 17 speakers, its WiFi access or even the new high-end variant. . A monograph range that should redefine standards in terms of luxury.
And, of course, our sense of driving. We can already expect that they will be better, just because of the existence of new direct transmission.
The 2022 Infiniti QX60 is expected later this year in North America. Pricing and other prize details will be sent to us at that time. Information on when the model will be available for booking is also forthcoming.
