The Q6 has been delayed by up to two years due to unprecedented delays with the electric car platform and software, integrated under the skin with the Porsche Macan Electric on the new ‘PPE’ architecture developed by Audi and Porsche.

In the UK the cheapest Q6 E-Tron is 30 per cent more expensive than the all-wheel-drive Tesla Model Y Long Range – and the performance variant of the SQ6 is almost twice the price.

Two versions of the five-seat Q6 E-Tron will be available initially, both with two electric motors with all-wheel drive, and a 94.9kWh battery pack (net capacity, or 100kWh total).

The standard Q6 E-Tron Quattro claims 285kW, 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 210km/h, while the high-performance SQ6 E-Tron Quattro quotes up to 380kW in acceleration mode, 0-100km/h h 4.3 seconds, and a top speed of 230km/h.

It compares with 300kW/650Nm for the electric Macan 4, and 470kW/1130Nm from the electric Macan Turbo, the latter capable of 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.3 seconds.”

Range is claimed up to 625km for the regular Q6, and 598km for the SQ6, with the new generation engines alone associated with a 40km range increase compared to previous models in previous electric cars, while being lighter and smaller.

Two rear-drive models will be released later, one with a smaller 83kWh (total) battery pack – and the other with a 94.9kWh battery and “a greater range compared to models offered at market launch.”

The PPE design uses 800 volt technology, with DC fast charging up to 270kW for 10 to 80 percent recharging in a claimed 21 minutes on a compatible plug.

If the car is connected to a fast charging station that uses 400 volts, Audi says the Q6 E-Tron supports ‘bank charging’ – so the 800-volt battery is “automatically divided into two batteries at the same voltage, which can be charged in parallel with up to 135kW.”

AC charging at home is available. The regenerative braking system can recover energy for up to 220kW under braking.

Measuring 4771mm long, 1993mm wide and 1648mm tall, on a 2899mm wheelbase, the Q6 E-Tron is 89mm longer nose to tail, 100mm wider, and 67mm in wheelbase than the petrol Q5, but 15mm less.

It wears the latest Audi styling language, with large front air intakes, curved lines above the wheel arches, and a closed front grille.

The segmented LEDs are claimed to be the “world’s first active digital light signature,” with rows of dimmable light elements that can be customized to display eight different signatures.

OLED lights consist of 360 light fields that can change their image every 10 milliseconds, and can be used in conjunction with Car-to-X technology – which communicates with road infrastructure and traffic management centers – to warn drivers behind an accident or others. the dangers that the car detects ahead.

A full suite of advanced safety technology is available, including semi-autonomous driving technology that steers, accelerates and breaks the car in its lane on the highway.
