Only 180,264 vehicles were re-registered in April, 21.5 percent less than last year. The new automotive market continues to suffer from production constraints.
For the third time in a row, the expected change of spring failed to be implemented in the automotive business. After two years of Corona, production losses now result in smaller numbers. Demand would exist, but many manufacturers are unable to serve the market. The remainder of the new registration by the Confederation of Motor Vehicles (KBA) has also been distorted.
A total of 229,967 new vehicles were registered in April, 20.8 percent less than a year ago. April’s low numbers are also reflected in the annual balance sheet to date. With 806,218 new vehicles registered after four months, the result is 9.0 percent less than last year. If one considers all new car registrations, then 997,372 new registrations result in a minus of 8.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
Loser JLR, a manufacturer of electronic cars continues to rise
Only manufacturers and manufacturers of electric vehicles that can transport can earn very high points. At the top of the list of winners after four months is Polestar with a growth of 161.8 percent compared to the previous year. Tesla has risen by 129.6 percent. Also interesting are the successes in Dacia (48.8%) and Honda (43.3%). Average high growth was also shown by Mitsubishi (34.9%) and Kia (26.0%). The MG brand, which is the first to enter Germany, also continues to perform well.
On the downside, the Jaguar / Land Rover group is heavily beaten. Jaguar dropped 39.2 percent, Land Rover sister brand decreased by 33.2 percent after four months. Smart (-31.9%), Renault (-28.5%), Suzuki (-26.7%), Nissan (-24.8%), Peugeot (-22.7%), Volvo (-21.9%), Citroen (-21.7%) and Opel (-20.7%). But the VW market leader also has to deal with a loss of 18.5 percent.
Decreases have affected all parts. SUVs lost 10.2 percent, but despite the decline in new registrations they were again the largest share by 27.9 percent, followed by the Compact class (14.3% / – 37.0%) and smaller cars (14.1% / – 22.2%), so that these three categories contributed more than half of the new registration of passenger cars. Large freight cars reported the biggest discounts of 47.5 percent. Comparative comparisons showed the slightest loss to 2.8 percent mobile homes, their share being 4.5 percent.
Loss of alternative stocks
The limited capacity of the developers to deliver also slows the growth of alternative storage systems. Although electric vehicles alone accounted for 22,175 new registrations and thus accounted for 12.3 percent, BEV was still below last year by 6.9 percent. But things also went downhill for other types of car. 56,786 new vehicles with a hybrid vehicle under the hood add up to 31.5 percent (-11.4%), comprising 21,697 hybrids (12.0% / – 19.6%). New registrations of petrol-powered passenger cars decreased by 27.8 percent, their share being 36.1 percent. The number of diesel-powered passenger vehicles decreased by 29.7 percent compared to the same month last year, their share being 19.6 percent. An average of 0.1 percent of new registrations were vehicles with natural gas engines (94 / – 76.4% cars). By and large most cars had a liquid gas truck. 838 new registrations with this type of operation resulted in a decrease of 18.5 percent and a share of only 0.5 percent.
Most important details of the new registration in April 2022:
- Percentage of gasoline engines: 36.1% (- 27.8%)
- Diesel share: 19.6% (- 29.7%)
- CO2 emissions: 122.5 g / km according to WLTP (- 3.1%)
Low used car market
The used car market continues to be characterized by a very sharp supply. In other words: many want to buy, but the market is empty. In April, 441,550 buyers were able to purchase a used car. compared to the previous year, however, the rate is 25.3 percent lower. In all vehicles, the KBA recorded 536,418 ownership transfers in April, a decrease of 23.8 percent. The balance of the year so far for used cars is also in red. Even though 1,913,592 cars found a new owner, the decline after four months was 12.0 percent. A total of 2,260,156 vehicles have changed hands in 2022 so far, minus here is 11.6 percent.
The new car market is facing delivery problems on the part of many manufacturers, while the used car market is facing second and third car acquisitions. In all places, April clearly shows bad symptoms. Business has to deal with the third consecutive failure of the spring season.
