MINI’s first crossover concept study in the premium city car segment provides insight into the design and digital technology of future models in the MINI family.
The new MINI family is growing. With the world premiere of the MINI Concept Aceman, the British automaker is presenting for the first time a new design language and many technological innovations that will shape future generations of the brand’s models. Therefore, the study of the first MINI crossover model for the first city car segment brings together the key features that define the driving pleasure of the brand of tomorrow: from the electronic operation to the clear and refined design language through the user experience digital reinvented time. supplying leather and chrome items.
“The MINI Concept Aceman previews a completely new design, which will bridge the gap between the MINI 3 & 5 door Hatch and the MINI Countryman,” said Stefanie Wurst, Director of MINI. “This concept car shows how MINI is re-opening itself to its 100% electric future and what the brand stands for: an electric “Go-Kart feeling”, an immersive digital experience and special attention paid to a small environmental footprint”.
The beginning of a new era of MINI design.
“The design language of the MINI Concept Aceman heralds the start of a new era of MINI design,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group Design Director. “The signature design elements of the MINI brand have become unrecognizable,” continues van Hooydonk. “We are returning to them today, systematically associating them with innovative technology. With this approach, we are redefining the MINI design icons for the digital future. »
The principle of “ Charismatic Simplicity » it focuses on the essentials, emphasizing the MINI design features even more. It is achieved here through a number of strong design elements such as the triangular, full and flared grille, generous surfaces designed with sharp edges, athletic elements and a powerful rear end with vertical lamps. MINI Concept Aceman is presented in turquoise “Icy Sunglow Green” body color. The traditional ‘British Racing Green Metallic’ is used on the different roofs. The circumference of the lower part of the body resembles a greenish tint. Finally, blue and pink-orange accents also emphasize the dynamic character of this concept.
A faithful bridge to the intelligent use of the space loved by the brand.
The MINI Concept Aceman has four doors, a wide entrance and can accommodate up to five passengers. The concept also includes the expected dimensions of the brand with an exterior length of 4.05 meters, a width of 1.99 meters and a height of 1.59 meters, all in a very modern silhouette.
Wide body styles, pronounced wheel arches, 20-inch wheels, attractive roof rack and front and rear trim give the MINI Concept Aceman the characteristics of a strong and versatile model. , intended for urban driving pleasure.
“The idea of a purely electric car makes it possible to direct the design towards the traditional values of MINI, which is the principle of intelligent use of space”, explains Oliver Heilmer, Design Director MINI. “This makes it possible to create models that take up less space on the road while offering more comfort, more flexibility and more emotion than ever before. »
Advanced digital integration and MINI features in the cabin.
The interior of the MINI Concept Aceman is also dominated by a reduced design with clear contours and carefully designed details. The flat dashboard, which takes its inspiration from the sound bar model, extends to the full width and is the perfect location for the main circular screen that uses OLED technology for the first time. The rocker switch ramp is arranged below, and is reinterpreted in terms of design and functionality. In this way, the study combines advanced digital technology with traditional MINI design elements.
Additionally, the interior features small door panels, a classic center console that extends to the rear seats, and an interesting color contrast. The MINI Concept Aceman seats have an elegant shape and integrated head restraints. The seating surfaces have a lively, three-dimensional look achieved through a combination of flat cloth, velor and waffle weave, an oversized houndstooth pattern and embroidered X and O patterns. The covers are made from durable textile materials instead of leather. Like the exterior, the interior is completely devoid of chrome elements.
“In the interior of the MINI Concept Aceman, we have focused on a minimal appearance with quality materials and warm colors. The digitization allows us to be satisfied with a few control elements and at the same time increase the usability on board as MINI knows how to do”, explains Oliver Heilmer. “The whole design aims to give passengers a complete experience in the interior space. »
Complete the user experience with new use cases.
The emotional connection between the MINI Concept Aceman and its users is enhanced by a seamless digital driving concept and a complete on-board experience combining light, motion, interaction and soundscapes. As soon as the user approaches the vehicle, the “Mini Companion”, a sensor-driven animation, provides a welcome experience that includes light and sound effects that continue in the passenger compartment as soon as the doors are opened.
The user interface of the OLED channel also has a completely new display, a modern layout and attractively designed widgets. The display and control system of the production model will be based on the latest generation of the MINI operating system, which for the first time is built on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) software platform.
A display area that extends beyond the central interface is another example. Moving image projections can transfer content from the control system to the entire dashboard, creating a unique experience that extends to the door panels.
The New Experience Modes featured in the MINI Aceman Concept offer additional customization options. Freely selected graphic motifs can be displayed on the central display in “Personal” mode. “Pop-up” mode invites the user to enjoy an immersive navigation with surprising prompts. And in “Open” mode, the area of the OLED screen and nearby areas can be used for entertaining interactions when stopped at traffic lights or when recharging the battery.
