The Trident brand will participate in the FE World Championship in 2023, making a return to motorsport.

The Italian brand Maserati will enter the Formula E (electric) World Championship from 2023, its CEO announced on Tuesday, stressing that this commitment marks the return to motorsport of this legendary name. “We are proud to be back where we need to be to be competitive in the world of racing,” Davide Grasso said in a statement.

The Trident brand is now owned by the Stellantis automotive group, which includes FCA and PSA. Founded in 1914 in Bologna, its headquarters are in Modena, very close to that of its competitor Ferrari. He won two F1 drivers’ world championships with Juan-Manuel Fangio in 1954 and 1957. The Formula E World Championship, launched in 2014, runs electric single-seaters in urban areas. It will welcome from 2023 the third generation of cars, called “Gen3”, more powerful.

The 2022 season has 16 rounds and is expected to start at the end of January in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Several major manufacturers such as Mercedes, Porsche, Nissan and Jaguar will participate. For Mercedes, it will be the last time before exiting the division at the end of 2022, following the example of BMW and Audi at the end of 2021. McLaren signed an option last year to potentially join the championship in 2023.
