Mercedes will have a special livery in the Belgian GP. The team revealed that the W13 will feature retro details during the Trade-Francorchamps stage in honor of the 55th anniversary of AMG, the subsidiary of the Daimler group responsible for the German automaker’s high-performance vehicles.
Numbers 44 and 63, which resemble the cars of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, respectively, will have the old design, black inside a white circle. The Brackley base also had a red and silver W13 replica for the weekend which will be on display throughout the weekend in the Fan Zone.
The red color is a reference to the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8 AMG, nicknamed the “Red Pig”. [porco vermelho, em tradução literal], which completed the 1971 24 Hours of Spa in second place. The model has become one of the brand’s classics.

Founded in 1967 by former Mercedes engineers, AMG is the subsidiary responsible for Mercedes’ high-performance cars. It emerged as an independent company until it was bought by DaimlerChrysler in 1999, and was fully integrated in 2005, becoming Mercedes-AMG. Since 2012, the name also appears in formula 1two years after the German automaker returned to the World Championship as a Constructor.
In addition to the W13 special edition, Toto Wolff, Hamilton and Russell will drive a replica of the history of the “Red Pig” on the track at Spa-Francorchamps this Thursday (25).
