Leader in the bus market in Minas Gerais, Mercedes-Benz It also has robust plans to respond to lightning. In this second term, the company plans to release the brand’s first electric buses. The model, developed and produced locally, had an investment of R$ 100 million for the creation of a chassis called eO500U. As a highlight, the bus will arrive with the Highest Gross Weight and battery capacity in the category, as well as allowing for the transport of 84 passengers.
As informed by the company, the preparation of the part also involves the bus chassis developed in cooperation with Eletra. This is a strategy to complete the supply, since the energy transition agenda forces not only to find renewable sources but also to ships that can take care of the environment.
In the analysis of the electric bus market, for example, Mercedes-Benz estimates a total of 3,000 vehicles on the road in the country by 2024.
Technology must be used, especially, capital cities and large municipalities that already lead the transport matrix that serves public services. This is the case of São Paulo and Belo Horizonte. The capital of Minas Gerais, for example, already has a project in the City Council for the entire fleet of buses, additional buses and taxis to be replaced by 2028.

For this reason, the company advocates that the national industry begins to produce buses and also batteries that store electrical energy for those buses.
“The price of electric technology is still 3 to 3.5 times the price of diesel technology, for several reasons. For example, many components are still imported, especially batteries. Exchange rates are not good at the moment. We are committed to nationalizing many components in the factory yard ours in SBC (São Bernardo do Campo), where electric vehicles will be produced.
Mercedes-Benz and market leadership
Since the beginning of this epidemic, the bus market of the brand has experienced a decrease in sales. However, Mercedes-Benz remains the leader in the stock (Market ownership) in the mineral market. In the first half of 2022, there were 377 units of the brand on the market.
The number, however, is 30% less than the same half of 2021, when 539 Mercedes buses were sold in Minas Gerais. Even with the decline, the brand is the leader in the bus segment with 53% of Market ownership.
Throughout 2020, when the country was facing uncertainty and the critical moment of the Covid-19 pandemic, the factory sold 840 buses. The decrease was 50% when considering 2019. That year, 1,668 units were licensed.. In 2021, in the 12-month balance sheet, the decline was achieved, and the company ended the year with 1,080 buses sold.
