Mercedes-AMG C63 SE Performance (2022), hybrid power

Mercedes has presented its latest addition to the AMG family, the C63 SE Performance, equipped with a monstrous hybrid engine, from the F1.

Mercedes is launching this Wednesday its new family sports car, the C63 AMG. An important example for the German brand that competes directly with Audi (RS4) and BMW (M3) in this market. Mercedes has gone big with its new C63 AMG (available in sedan or station wagon), which now has a hybrid engine, which is directly inspired by technology from F1. If the V8 is no longer offered, this new C63 AMG SE Performance has something to seduce.

Slightly redesigned design

As for the exterior, several modifications have been made. The front part is already 5 cm longer than the previous generation, and the guards have also been extended. Overall, the new C63 AMG is 8cm long and 7.6cm wide. The wheel increases by one centimeter. Mercedes shows that these new dimensions bring more character to the bodywork and a more stretched and more muscular line.

Other important exterior features include a small air vent on the bonnet, accompanied by the traditional AMG grille, mounted with vertical struts. The body has been slightly redesigned to improve airflow. Especially the presence of“The air Panel » electrically controlled, located behind the grille and on the front apron. Note also that the AMG logo will now be available from the entry level.

At the rear, there is a dual exhaust with a new diffuser. A spoiler painted black, and integrated into the trunk lid, was also fitted by Mercedes. There is also an E Performance badge, which will indicate the presence of a hybrid drive.

Finally, the new C63 SE Performance is fitted with 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels depending on the versions selected. Mercedes also says that several color customizations will be available on this model. Three additional packs will emphasize the sporty effect (AMG Carbon Fiber Exterior Pack, AMG Night Pack and AMG Aerodynamics Pack).

The interior is becoming more and more modern

Inside, the sporty element is immediately apparent with the presence of AMG sports bucket seats. Several color and stitching options will be available for the front seats. There are also very well designed rear seats.

Mercedes also installed the latest AMG-spoke steering wheel. It benefits from new controls that are more accessible and more visible. Now it will be possible to control different driving functions or different driving modes without letting go of the steering wheel. The driver will also be able to control the regeneration of the hybrid drive through the steering wheel.

Finally, the new C63 SE Performance receives Mercedes’ new multimedia system, called MBUX. The latter includes a special function for the car’s hybrid engine. The instrument cluster will also be customizable using different display styles. Several high-resolution graphs on the multimedia display show information such as the energy flow of the entire drive system, engine speed or power.

A header display will also be available and will display the information returned by the systems Breeding and Super Sport developed by AMG.

C63 SE Performance, an unprecedented hybrid engine

It is under the hood that the sports family from Mercedes changes the most. Done with the legendary V8, put it now in a 2.0 liter four cylinder engines. This engine block has an electrically assisted turbocharger. The power of this heat engine is 476 hp and 545 Nm of torque. Mercedes is talking about a four-cylinder engine “world’s strongest”.

This fuel block is accompanied by an electric motor with a 70 kW battery with a power of 204 hp. The total power of this C63 SE Performance therefore reaches 680 hp and 1,020 Nm of torque.

To allow better traction, Mercedes has installed all-wheel drive AMG 4MATIC+ Performance equipped with rear-wheel steering, a first in this segment.

A 9-speed gearbox with SpeedShift technology from AMG will be available. It will be accompanied by a second two-gear box that will be connected to an electric motor.

Several technologies offered for more precise operation

This hybrid engine was developed directly by the F1 department at Mercedes-AMG. In addition to this impressive hybrid engine, there are other things to drive even more. First of all, 8 different driving modes will be available (Power, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sports, Sports+, RUNNING, Skiing and Individual). They will enable you to take advantage of all the capabilities of the car according to your wishes.

There is also a new damping adjustment system called AMG Driving Control. It will allow better road holding.
