Mercedes picks up the pieces to make a recovery weekend in the Italian GP. The fifth place of George Russell and the seventh place of Lewis Hamilton in FP2 was disputed this Friday (9) with complaints of both and the performance of the W13 in the concern of the Italian circuit.
At least, that’s the opinion of Andrew Shovlin, director of engineering for the Silver Arrows, who took an assessment of the team’s performance in Italy. “Everything went well in the first session, it seemed like the car was in a good, balanced position, but in the second we had problems with both drivers, who suffered from a lack of rear grip.”

The lack of speed of the W13 and the dissatisfaction of the driver duo in free practice was already expected by Shovlin. This problem is exacerbated by the penalty for the seven-time champion, who will start from the back of the grid in Italy.
“In terms of pacing, our competitors got better answers than us, so let’s do a detailed analysis to understand what we missed. We know that we will have the same weekend as Spa and, with Lewis’ penalty, we will have to repeat his points-scoring form”, analyzed Andrew.
