McLaren buys a Mercedes team in Formula E

Already officially in Formula 1, IndyCar and Extreme E, McLaren will add Formula E to its rank after a few months!

After taking some time to mature its decision, the British manufacturer will take part in the 9th season of the 100% electric championship which will see the arrival of the third generation of single seats.

McLaren has been relying on a terrific team since taking over the current Mercedes EQ Team led by Ian James, a star company that pulled out of the competition at the end of the current season.

“Joining the McLaren family is a privilege, rejoices James. McLaren has always been synonymous with success and high performance. It is a good time for everyone involved, but especially for the people who make up our team. They are the ones who keep it alive. »

“Being able to continue working with them is the most exciting thing for me, adds the Englishman. I look forward to the next chapter and will be proud of its part for Season 9. Until then, we will focus on delivering the best results for Mercedes. »

“I am confident that Formula E will give McLaren Racing a competitive advantage through a better understanding of electronics, while providing something new for our fans, partners and the public and continue to push us forward on the road to sustainable development. Said Zak Brown, McLaren director.

Currently, two former McLarens, Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne, are in the Mercedes EQ.

The Belgian is already known to have signed with DS Penske for 2023, while FEL McLarens are expected to be operated by the Nissan power unit.

The FIA System World Championships are taking place this weekend in Berlin with a double E-Prix.
