Lexus has launched the second generation of the NX, a medium sport utility vehicle (SUV) that has received a facelift, both inside and out. It keeps the basic lines of the previous model, but now it is more solid and clean, without many messy creases. The visual language of the backend resembles a cohesive UX. Lexus NX also has a new multimedia center and new engine sets, hybrid and plug-in hybrid with up to 306 horsepower.

With a low center of gravity and a strong stance, the new NX is built on the same platform as the Toyota RAV4, but with a more powerful design. The Lexus NX introduces the brand’s new multimedia screen with a 9.5-inch screen, but which can be converted to a larger 14-inch screen.

At the front, the SUV has an updated grille with the current brand language and has a three-dimensional effect. Topped with L-shaped daytime running lights (DRL), the headlights can have three reflectors.

At the rear, the Lexus logo has been redesigned to create a sophisticated and modern expression. Instead of the use of the L badge, there is a new integrated LEXUS logo located in the center of the car. The taillights are integrated with blades, similar to the Lexus UX and IS. The visible signature is L-shaped.

The cabin is a new Lexus design, called the Tazuka, with a driver-facing dashboard with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch Head Up Display (HUD). In the middle, a standard 9.8-inch touchscreen puts various multimedia functions at your fingertips. An optional 14-inch touchscreen, a first for the NX, offers multimedia experience.

Lexus NX: engine

Lexus NX 2022 will have up to seven electric powertrains available in different markets, from Japan to the United States, through Europe. Highlights are the new 2.4 turbo engine and hybrid kit. In the US, it will be sold in NX250, NX350, NX350h and NX450h+ hybrid versions.

The new 2.4-liter four-cylinder has 275 horsepower, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It features electronically controlled all-wheel drive. In addition to Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) high-speed combustion system, the engine features Lexus’ first central injection system and close-fitting turbocharger and exhaust designed to meet increased exhaust emissions always. strong

The Lexus NX 350h is equipped with a 2.5-liter combustion engine and electronics on the front and rear axles. It is 239 horses, more power than the old 300h. Instead of transfer gears and a rear-wheel drive axle, the AWD system uses a second independent electric motor to move the rear wheels when it feels it’s needed to help maintain better traction.

The icing on the cake, however, is the plug-in hybrid that will be sold in the 450h version. It is the first PHEV model offered by Lexus, which previously only used Toyota’s ‘self-charging’ hybrid technology, as found in the Corolla, Corolla Cross and RAV4.

The plug-in hybrid system used in the PHEV version of the NX consists of a 2.5-liter inline-four engine, an 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, and front and rear motors. It has a range of up to 57 km in 100% electric mode. That’s a combined 306 horsepower and the model will come with a 3.3 kWh charger as standard.

The 2022 Lexus NX will be available in US stores in the coming months, when official pricing and other details will be released.
