Remember the Lexus CT200h? The hybrid hatch is the most affordable model of Toyota’s luxury brand, not only in Brazil but also in other markets. It’s just that it was released in 2011 and it’s showing its age. According to Pascal Ruch, head of Lexus Europe, the car will have a replacement that will be launched in two years. And it may not be your average hatchback, low-end type of car.
It is believed that the new Lexus entry-level car will use the TNGA modular platform, which will bring a series of improvements compared to the CT, in handling, fuel economy and safety. As Lexus invests more in SUVs, magazine motor vehicle speculates that this new model may be a crossover.
The new Lexus compact will have the same sculpted grille as the brand’s other vehicles and is expected to have a hybrid variant. THE motor vehicle is betting that it should be the first electric model of Toyota’s luxury division – until now, the company has been betting on hybrids as a means of electrification. Ewan Shepherd, head of Lexus UK, says it will be smaller than the UX compact SUV, which is 4.49 meters long and has a 2.64 meter wheelbase.
If it continues with the hatchback design, the successor to the Lexus CT will face strong competition from the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class, as well as the next generations of the Audi A3 Sportback and the BMW 1 Series. As an electric car, it will end up competing for space with the Tesla Model 3 and the future Mercedes EQA.
