A Chilean-patented Chevrolet Camaro will be auctioned in Argentina for less than $7 million

The Chevrolet Camaro has been involved in a controversial story, which for unknown reasons, it ended up being published as a lot to be auctioned off this March 21 at noon, in an auction organized by Banco Nación in Argentina.

The car, described on the auction sheet as a 2014, with a 3.6-litre engine and 110,000km on the clock, appears to be in good condition, although it has a lot of dirt on its exterior, as well as a nice-looking interior. . nice, but with questionable quality seat covers.

A very interesting thing can be seen in the picture, where you can see that the Camaro’s patent starts with R, the letter used to patent cars in Chile in 2022, so it is possible that the car entered our country through the Free Zone. A theory that has more weight when we see that the auction will take place in the town of Los Antiguos, a border town in front of Chile Chico, in the Province of Aysén.

Who can buy this car?

Banco Ciudad’s post explains that this car is not authorized to drive on Argentine roads, so the future owner will have to transport it by crane to the border crossing to Chile.

But, is arriving and entering Chile?

The answer is no. Erick Muñoz, Representative and Import and Export Manager at Ricardo Valdivia Customs Agency, explains to us that there are several requirements for this vehicle to travel our roads again.

The first is that the recipient must be a Chilean citizen or naturalized resident. In addition, it must be presented with all the documents confirming the purchase, to delete the previous license plates, as the car must be registered again in our country, as well as paying the corresponding taxes for customs duties.

All these procedures must be carried out by the owner of the car, without being able to delegate said duties. Furthermore, Muñoz adds that this will be unique, since outside the free zones, modern used cars cannot be imported.

And the need to buy in Argentina?

This is also important, since Banco Ciudad clarifies that the amount of the guarantee and the remaining amount of the amount for which the car will be delivered must be made from the bank account of its property, since it will not allow transfers. from third parties.

Additionally, the Camaro must be picked up within 30 days of the award date in a vehicle that is properly prepared for international shipment. On the other hand, since it is mainly intended for re-export, it is not subject to VAT.

Of course, the purchase is Russian roulette, since the mechanical details of the car are unknown, since it has been noted that it has not even been tested that the engine was capable of starting.

Undoubtedly an interesting story, which could end with the Camaro being sold at a very low price, as the auction starts at 5,532,000 Argentine pesos, equivalent to $6,381,468.
