Kia to launch 11 new electric cars by 2026, wants global leadership

THE Kia will enter the world of electricity. THE a South Korean brand announced that it will launch 11 models with 100% electric motorization by 2026. Of these, seven will be built on the E-GMP platform, similar to 5 ions and 6 ions (the last one, scheduled for the end of 2022), from Hyundai A group of cars. The brand’s plan is to remove any kind of combustion car from its portfolio by 2035 in Europe. Globally, that work has been postponed until 2040.

According to Kia, even its factories will be sustainable. The plan is to use solar energy in plant operations in China, South Korea, the United States and India by 2045.

As you can see from the teaser released by Kia (featured image) – will be models from different categories, from hatchbacks to vans. In the list there are still four door sedans, to beat the models of Tesla Model 3 and Model S. It is logical, after all, Stinger does not have much time to live.

Record of events

According to information, including known EV6 – released at the beginning of the year -, the idea is to launch two more models in early 2022. For 2023 there are three more copies and, in 2024, two more cars. The remaining three arrive between 2025 and 2026.

One of these cards up his sleeve is the EV9 SUV (pictured above), presented in concept form at the Los Angeles Auto Show, USA. So there will be five more new models with EV names – presumably, the EV7 and EV8 SUVs are on the list.

In addition to electric models, in order to achieve the carbon neutrality proposed in the sustainability movement, Kia has been developing hydrogen fuel cell technology. The idea is, finally, after testing in military vehicles, to reach the market in 2028.

The Sportage hybrid is coming

In Brazil, perhaps due to the lack of a more aggressive commercial department, the Kia was never as accepted as its cousin. Hyundai. Even a series of models shown in soap operas through marketing actions did not arouse consumer interest in the brand which is not even reflected in Fenabrave’s numbers. But, in an attempt to change the game, the brand is promising to invest in hybrid models around here so much so that, this week, it confirmed the arrival of the July 2022 Sportage.

The fifth generation of the SUV will arrive completely new, with bold lines and modern technology. In this sense, things like driving assistance and two 12-inch full HD screens are certain. As for the 2023 lineup, the idea is to compete with other mid-size SUVs like the Jeep Compass, Toyota Corolla Cross and Volkswagen Taos.

As an example, two engine options. Kia promises a 1.6 turbo (150 hp or 179 hp) connected to a hybrid system with a 48 V battery. Finally, there are estimates to combine the 1.6 engine with an electric motor, producing a power of 229 hp. A plug-in hybrid is also in the pipeline, but nothing is confirmed here. Kia expects to sell (worldwide) by 2030, around 1 million units of electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
