Jollylook is launching a crowdfunding campaign for its new DIY camera, the Pinhole DIY Kit. Thanks to that, we get a kind of small camera that we reload with Fujifilm Instax Mini instant films.

With its minimalist retro style, the Jollylook Pinhole DIY Kit is a playful and fun gift for your loved ones or for yourself, quite simply. For the more daring, Jollylook can be assembled before deployment, for a “ready-to-use” reception.

Something retro and playful

By default, the 65 pieces that make up the Jollylook Pinhole DIY Kit are shipped as a kit. According to the company, it takes between 1.5 and 3 hours for full assembly. The structure is made of wood available in two colors. The dark color makes it possible to have a device with a finished design while the light color is focused so that the photographer can decorate it to his taste, with marks or colors.

The miniature camera is designed using the pinhole model as a starting point. Here too, this type of photography is very fun and interesting for young and old, from the construction of the “box” to the development of images, including shooting. The Jollylook Pinhole is even more advanced than a simple pinhole, thanks to the integration of a viewfinder with a Fresnel lens.

Attractive design

As the device doesn’t have to be easy to use, Jollylook has planned everything to make the process easier: Fujifilm Instax Mini instant films are used and a guide to properly expose your photo is attached to the back of the Jollylook Pinhole. The zoom is even with a basic range of 50 to 100 mm! In the absence of electronic equipment, you will have to use the slide provided for this purpose to produce your image.

Take an informed risk

If crowdfunding can be attractive and allows you to support the project by making an investment, you should remember that the risk remains. In addition to possible fraud, the risks associated with the execution of the intention until its final realization are not easy to control. Remember that good investments are made with money that you can afford to lose.

Additionally, Jollylook aimed to launch the Jollylook Auto, a camera of the same kind. As the name suggests, automatic exposure functions should be included, just like flash should be included. And over €220,000 has been raised in February 2022, success seemed certain.

Ukrainian epic

Jollylook is originally a Ukrainian company founded between Irpin and Bucha, not far from Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. With the arrival of war in the country, the whole project was shaken. The Jollylook teams have chosen, after consultation with their community, to suspend the Jollylook Auto project.

Less risky to produce than Jollylook Auto in these difficult circumstances, the new campaign should allow small businesses to start off on the right foot more easily. At the same time, the company moved to Slovakia to relaunch under favorable conditions. For the future, the next design of the Pinhole DIY Kit should be in a square design, using Fujifilm Instax Square paper.
