Amazfit is famous for its good value for money watches, it is updating three models of its main line. We were able to discover them at the manufacturer’s stand during our trip to the IFA 2022 show in Berlin. The opportunity to appreciate the progress in terms of finish and display, failing to see the improvements in the sensors and to test the main novel set for this fourth generation: the circular division GPS antenna, declared very accurate.
GPS position was announced more accurately
With this fourth generation, Amazfit seems determined to make people forget the poor accuracy of the GPS chips of its previous models. We noticed during the test of the GTR 3 Pro the behavior of the route found by the clock cutting buildings, a sign of poor GPS reception. That error could therefore be a thing of the past if the new circular polarization antenna turns out to be more sensitive and non-directional. Knowing that the GPS chip is also dual-band, we hope it will be better in the city and in the forest.
Regarding the GPS navigation, the GTR 4 and GTS 4 will receive an update with the ability to follow routes imported from the Zepp software (GPX file priori).
More complete functions and sports automation
Apart from their different design – round for the GTR 4, rectangular for the GTS 4 – these 2 Amazfit watches share the same features. There are 150 sports modes, 8 of which are auto-detected, including a new advanced Track Running mode and a new Golf mode. Timed training is also available for 10 different sports.
These new watches can also recognize 15 bodybuilding exercises and automatically calculate repetitions, sets and rest periods, so you don’t have to worry about anything other than your training. The GTR 4 and GTS 4 also benefit from the PeakBeats training mode algorithm, which specifically provides a VO2 Max score and other parameters calculated from the sports and health tests they have implemented.
Workouts recorded by the watch can be sent to Strava and Adidas Running.
Light and wide screen
Technically, the GTR 4 is the largest (46 x 46 x 12.4 mm) of the three watches. The materials of its case (polycarbonate and aluminum) allow to show some lightness (34 g, excluding the bracelet). The display in question, the GTR 4 benefits from a 1.43 “Amoled screen, with a resolution of 466 x 466 px (326 dpi), protected by a tough glass.
In turn, the GTS 4 passes under the bar of 10 mm thick (9.9 mm) and weighs only 27 g (excluding the bracelet), also using aluminum and polycarbonate for its case. This does not prevent it from carrying a large 1.75 “Amoled screen (341 ppi), occupying 72.8% of the front panel, according to Amazfit.
Improved heart rate monitoring
As for the health aspect, there is a PPG BioTracker 4.0 optical sensor for measuring heart rate and SpO2. This has resulted in a second increase in data collection (+33%, according to Amazfit). A better heart rate tracking algorithm can reduce signal interference caused by hand movements during exercise. Amazfit reaches the point of announcing “heart rate monitoring almost identical to heart rate monitors“Other recent watches have the ability to do this, especially from Apple or even Huawei and Samsung to a lesser extent. We can hope that Amazfit watches will return to the level, because it was not a strong step of the 3rd generation.
At the level of sleep monitoring, Amazfit notes that it is now possible to define periods and times of sleep, so that the watch can detect sleep in a person who could sleep during the day, in the event of night work. example.
Up to 15 days of battery life… for the Mini version!
In terms of autonomy, the GTR 4 can work for 14 days in normal use, thanks to the 475 mAh battery, while the GTS 4 would exceed a week of use (up to 8 days).
The great freedom that the GTS 4 Mini will have an amazing ability to exceed despite its small size, bringing a runtime of up to 15 days in normal use and up to 45 days in economy mode.
The more compact Amazfit 3 watch, however, weighs only 19 g (not including the strap) and does not exceed 9.1 mm in thickness, allowing only the connection of a small 270 mAh battery. Despite this reduced capacity, even less than that of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 40 mm, the GTS 4 Mini will have more than 10 times more freedom than its Korean competitor. However, it benefits from a large 1.65″ screen (309 ppi), which occupies 70.2% of the front panel, according to Amazfit.
The Amazfit GTR 4 and GTS 4 smartwatches will be available from the 3rd week of October, at a price of €199.99. Three files will be released for the first (Superspeed Black, Vintage Brown Leather and Racetrack Grey), while the second will be eligible for four (Infinite Black, Misty White, Autumn Brown and Rosebud Pink).
You won’t have to wait until the end of September to get the GTS 4 Mini, which will be sold at a very attractive price of €99.99, also in four versions (Midnight Black, Flamingo Pink, Mint Blue and Moonlight White).
