Honda CR-V: price varies by date of purchase?

“I want to buy a 2023 Honda CR-V. Do you think the best time to buy it is fall 2022 or spring 2023? I hope it will be cheaper in the spring.”

-Richard

Hi Richard,

It is true that in the past, the price of new cars varied depending on the time of year when the transaction took place. This was mainly, for certain products, in the period following the holiday season, to stimulate sales during this peak period at dealers, or even during the summer to make room for next year’s cars.

You can also see the changes that had an influence on the monthly payment, even if the original price remained the same. I am thinking, among other things, of interest rates that vary from month to month. These are incentives that were used by automakers to play with the needs of a specific vehicle or to take advantage of special interest in, for example, hybrids or electric vehicles.

Over the past two years, however, the situation has changed. With the exception of a few American truck manufacturers, few manufacturers offer financial incentives (purchase discounts or low interest rates) to increase product sales. Demand for new cars is high and supply is still limited, so automakers don’t need financial measures to boost model popularity. Even now, the trend is higher, with financing methods that rarely benefit consumers.

The Honda case

This is especially true for a branded car Honda. Basically, this brand has always tended to sell its cars at a higher price than the competition, no doubt because of its reputation. Additionally, you can see this by looking at the selling price of the 2022 Honda CR-V compared to other vehicles in the segment. It will probably be the same as 2023 Honda CR-Valthough pricing has yet to be announced at the time of this writing.

Honda is also not known for offering freebies to its buyers based on interest rates or purchase discounts. Even at the end of the year, it’s rare to see a $750 discount on a special model. Additionally, the 2023 Honda CR-V will only arrive, making it unlikely to get an incentive in the fall or spring.

So to answer your question clearly, the current market conditions are not suitable for discounts, along with the fact that Honda is not generous in this area, so financially speaking there is no good time to buy this car.

I must tell you, however, that we have not yet been able to drive the Honda CR-V 2023. We have to wait to read it before commenting on it, which should happen in the coming weeks, and. then make a purchase recommendation during that year.
