Why is the Honda Civic Type-R FN2 being collected?
Offered on the altar of anti-CO2 standards (ready!), This amazing V-Tec atmo engine of this Civic is now of old value. This time, we get a brief overview of the old Civic engine of the same name, the magical atmosphere of 2.0 l and the V-Tec distribution with a capacity of over 8,000 rpm. Power now stands at 201 hp, and torque 193 Nm, so 90% will be available from 2,500 rpm thanks to the new electronic management.
These values are similar to those of the old model, when they show that the engine can be more flexible, but the new Civic weighs about sixty pounds (1,265 kg advertised) than the old one. However, performance does not seem to be affected. For beauty, side skirts, fender blades, 18 rims and back straps distinguish Type R, which is also reduced by 15 mm compared to the standard version.
The price is attractive when the car is sold in early 2007: € 25,300 (or € 29,700 today according to INSEE) for the basic version. This includes CD MP3 audio, ESP, 18 aluminum rims, Alcantara bucket seats and air conditioner. Charged at € 28,300 (€ 33,300 now according to Insee), R Heritage adds an automatic dual-component air conditioner, xenon lights, trip controls and automatic lights and wiper. And GPS is available for € 2,400.
In 2009, the sub-series “Championship Edition” completes a summary of an important feature: a small slide variance. All dressed in white, this edition is sold in only 80 official units in France. At the end of 2010, the Civic Type R left the market because it did not pass the new Euro V standard that came into effect in 2011.
How much does it cost?

Which version to choose?
Considering the lack of price differences, you can choose the Heritage with the most complete equipment. And if your capabilities allow, the Champion Edition is self-sufficient as its diversity enhances efficiency.

What to follow?
Unless it is maintained as it should be (oil is constantly changing with better fuel), the Civic R type is more reliable. On the side of the RAS engine, which benefits from supply chain, which simplifies maintenance. The box is sometimes faced with synchro 3 which rubs for high mileage, which is easily redone. Caution, it must be sanded before 100,000 miles. There are also cases of noise clutch, which does not necessarily lead to consequences.
Paint is sensitive to the effects of gravel, but in the passenger room, there is nothing wrong with reporting on a long-term subject.

Of course, the dashboard is still interesting. That said, behind the appearance, we could not appreciate the tachometer, which was mounted on the upper part. We also wonder if it has not encouraged some Peugeot designers… In the background, we are amazed by the important sound, especially with the bench folded down. Ahead, we enjoy a comfortable position and a seat that is now well maintained.
Engine? Of course it has become more flexible compared to the old Type R and is more attractive every day. That said, logically, it doesn’t give much before 3,500 rpm. Then it pushes further and gets a great punch strength at 5,000 rpm. There, we enter the comfort zone, which lasts up to 8,300 rpm! Then it pushes very hard and screams to give a cold. To put the block in the right column, we take advantage of the 6 most interesting box to handle, quickly and in a short way. On the other side of the coin, at 130 km / h, we are already over 4,000 rpm, so it is a bit winding.
If the suspension, solid, retains acceptable comfort, the chassis does not influence at all. It is not that security is open to criticism, on the contrary. With good grip and a very tough body, Type R is encouraging and highly effective.
Except, with the help of an electric-powered steering wheel, we denounce a very safe character, which is therefore branded, the sharp one completely refuses to put himself. And it’s a shame because that’s also what made his predecessor salt! In addition, motor skills are quickly mistaken. In fact, Type R FN2 is intended to be the most versatile and practical application in everyday life, which is done at the expense of minimal sports performance.
However, it offers unique mechanics, and you can adjust the behavior each time and part from the competition, which amateurs do from time to time. Finally, in normal consumption, the Japanese swallow 8.5 l / 100 km on average, which remains very acceptable.
An alternative to youth
Honda Civic 1.8 VTI (1997 – 2000)
