What can be collected?

Why is the Mercedes-Benz SLK 32 AMG being collected?

A large engine in a small body always produces enjoyable results, especially in terms of driving pleasure, and the SLK 32 AMG is no exception. More strongly, it combines its multiplicity with a missing formula, that of coupé-cabriolet. Such as 5-speed automatic transmission (35% faster than that of SLK 320) and Speedshift sequence control, unfortunately no manual unit is provided. The SLK 32 AMG will last until 2004, when the R170 coupé-cabriolet will convert the generation to R171. In four years, it will be delivered to 4,333 units, which makes it a very rare machine.

How much does it cost?

SLK 32 AMGs can be obtained in good condition from € 18,000. At this price, it exceeds 180,000 kilometers, which is not a concern for a well-tracked copy. For € 20,000, you get a car with less than 150,000 km, while for € 25,000 you get models with about 50,000 km.

Issues of collectors

Any SLK 32 AMG that is in perfect natural condition is a compiler product, but, as always, models for lower miles will be sought after.

What to follow?

The good news is, SLK 32 AMG proves to be very reliable, provided, of course, that it is well maintained. This requires constant change of engine oil of course, but also of gearbox and bridge. Not to mention the adjustments that are sometimes very expensive, especially when you have to replace 12 spark plugs. We will also follow up if, after 100,000 kilometers, there is no suspicious noise from the time series. Sometimes, a compressor heat exchanger pump does its own thing, a problem that is easy and inexpensive to solve.

Errors will be more than an electronic order. Poor connections here and there due to water infiltration, more often the faulty ABS / ESP terminal causing the warning lights to flash and drop …

Lastly, make sure the roof is working properly, its jacks may fail with age.

Driving

SLK seems to be very thin at the moment but its restricted structure remains very attractive. The passenger compartment is more banal but ergonomics is well thought out (it is a change from current tablets!) And the sports seats are very comfortable. Properly installed, we activate the V6, which is very quiet at low speeds. In the city, the box shifts gears smoothly, the suspension does not blow, in short, the car is quiet. The same goes for the road, where the SLK 32 AMG loves to travel. But if you crush the accelerator, check it out!

Roads change face. The gearbox goes down (slowly), the engine starts to emit a deep noise, adorned with a compressor mew, and most of all … it manages to push! Very developed but beautiful!

The BVA thinks the top gear is approaching the switches (around 6000 rpm), very slowly, and acceleration continues towards the blame peaks. The car does not have the lowest direction, the direction is correct but you can not communicate, the humidity can be very flexible …

In addition, the body has no rigidity and low roof, which translates into complete orientation on bumpy roads. No need to play drifter madly in turns: no locks, and ESP intervenes quickly. This is not true in the rain, where you will have to be careful. Fortunately, the SLK 32 AMG closed the brakes well. His thing remains to be seen, where his comfort and his extraordinary reserve of power will do wonders. It will also know how to swallow less than 11 l / 100 km.

It is a small 2.3 l 4-cylinder with 16 valves and with manual gearbox. It is very attractive (its 185 hp has only 1,220 kg to carry), it enjoys 190 2.3-16 and good performance after 4,000 rpm (230 km / h maximum, 0 to 100 km / h in 7, 5 sec).

But it is still the chassis that is most enjoyable, balanced, healthy and moist. This 190 loves to be whipped, and its tightness further enhances its efficiency. As opposed to SLK 32 AMG we tell you!
