Formula E. McLaren buys a Mercedes and will take part in the world championships

McLaren will join the Formula E (electric) world championship next season, a British car manufacturer, who buys a Formula E team from Mercedes, announced on Saturday. “The Formula E initiative not only reflects McLaren’s commitment to the electric race, but also aims to accelerate the sustainability process of McLaren Racing and reach a new, more diverse international audience.”he described the brand in a press release.

More powerful cars next year

Already participating in Formula 1, IndyCar, Extreme E and eSports, McLaren begins this new discipline by acquiring a Form E team from Mercedes, the defending champion. This acquisition should be completed later in the year, depending on the group. The manufacturer had signed an option last year to make it possible to join the series. It will be joined by Italian brand Maserati, which earlier this year announced its participation in the tournament next season. In addition to Mercedes initially, several major manufacturers such as Porsche, Nissan and Jaguar are taking part in this year’s world championship.

The Formula E World Championships, launched in 2014, are one-way electric race in urban areas. Starting next season, it will host the third generation of cars, called “Gen3”, the most powerful.

This season counts, it has 16 rounds (records) competed in ten different countries. The two two iPrix are on the calendar (Diriyah, Rome, Berlin, New York, London and Seoul), with the Korean capital hosting the last summit on August 13 and 14.
