R7-Autos Carros tested the Ford Maverick at its core, which is a powerful family and cargo utility. Derived from the Ford Bronco SUV, the pickup has a bountiful interior as well as exterior space, provided by the bed.

The Maverick bucket follows the “Flexbed” concept with a sufficient volume of 943 liters, that is, more than 100 liters more than competitors. In addition, it allows you to prepare items of different sizes and functions thanks to the equipment offered at Ford dealers.

The carrying capacity is 617 kg. That is enough to carry the luggage of five passengers, work tools and even bicycles and motorcycles thanks to the bucket extender and eight attachment points already installed in the compartment. There are also side storage compartments (useful for carrying small items such as an emergency air compressor, nylon ropes, tools that cannot be left exposed in a bucket, etc.), a 12V socket and a can and bottle opener built into the lid. , which is very light, easy to handle and still has a remote opening.

To carry more cargo, the Maverick is larger than its competitors. They are 5.11 m long, 1.84 m wide and 3.07 m wheelbase. It has a ground clearance of 21.8 cm, an angle of attack of 20.6º, an angle of departure of 21.2º, an angle of change of 18.1º and an immersion capacity of 45 cm. In practice, it has the size of a large pick-up and the length of a car of passenger and generous wheel.

After carrying cargo and passengers, another highlight is the interior space, as a result of the wide and deep platform, which gives a sense of spaciousness. The seats are leather and there are several storage areas around the cabin. Highlight 73 liters of room available under the rear seat and a large cup holder in the door that can hold up to a 1.5 liter water bottle.

Among the chips that are not seen by the competitors are the opening of the porthole with the electric button, the activation of the gearshift with the rotary button and even the rear camera that allows you to see the trailer in detail, facilitating operation in use. trailer or trailers.

We also tested the Maverick by taking the bike on a weekend ride. For proper lashing, it is not necessary to separate the front wheel. Even motorcycles will fit perfectly in the Flexbed bucket with proper care and use of an extender.

To complement the model’s versatility, Ford recently unveiled the 18-liter Maverick. In the evaluated model, we received a pick-up with an air deflector, stirrup and bucket protection. Inside, the rubberized surfaces of the compartment can be removed and washed. Multimedia uses the SYNC system with an 8-inch screen, a high-definition camera and mobile phone mirroring using the Android Auto system and Apple CarPlay.

Throughout the test, Maverick proved its merits for car handling. Without the usual pick-up bumps, it’s stable, comfortable and has unparalleled performance compared to competitors. The engine is a 2.0 EcoBoost turbocharged with direct injection gasoline that produces 253 hp and 38.7 kgfm of torque at 3,000 rpm, accelerating from standstill to 100 km / h in 7.2 seconds. The transmission is an 8-speed automatic and there is permanent all-wheel drive (AWD).

For those who think that a diesel engine will be lacking, the Maverick surprises in terms of acceleration, control and comfort. The use was also surprising. With a car weighing 1,744 kg, Maverick completed almost 700 km of tests with an average of 8.9 km / l in the city and 11.5 km / l on the highway. It is similar to a diesel engine, only without vibration, with more torque and greater performance.

In practice, the Ford Maverick is designed for those who like the looks and versatility of a pick-up but don’t want a vehicle that is too long and sometimes unsuitable for everyday use. It’s amazing in performance, in the versatility of the Flexbed bucket that meets professional and recreational use with ease and still has the ability to drive a passenger car.
