Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario – The current generation of Jetta was introduced in 2019, just before the world stopped working as usual. Three years after its inception, as usual in the industry, remodeling therapy was kept in the same fashion to update the waiting time for its new design.
Last August, Volkswagen unveiled images for the standard version and the GLI 2022 edition, as well as announcing major changes that would benefit both. Therefore, no surprise was expected at the official launch of the Jetta 2022. The event took place in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
What we learned, in fact, is how the standard Jetta worked with its new engine, and then how much GLI theft is on the market for anyone looking for a performance AND cheap sedan.
You will not be very successful when you see the Jetta 2022. Volkswagen’s conservative design makes a few adjustments here and there, but nothing major. Basically, the model sees its faces redesigned and adopts a new grid. New bumpers are important, front and back. Rims, 16 or 17 inches, also have new signatures. Finally, new metallic colors (blue, white and red) are added to the palette.
The most important change, aside from the engine, comes with the addition of the Sport package, available with the Comfortline version. We return to him.
The new Jetta engine is already operating within the Volkswagen family, especially with the Taos. Thus, the compact drops the 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo that fitted it to the 1.5-liter 4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharger. Small changes, but in terms of power, there are common benefits. The new barrier provides capacity of 158 horses and 184 feet of torque. The capacity was 147 forces and the old one (torque remained unchanged).
This barrier can be matched with a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission. The latter is the only one to offer the Highline version. Alternatively, both boxes are available.
Interestingly, 13% of the Jetta on sale is equipped with a third pedal. This number would have been worse 30 or 40 years ago; is unique today. For the GLI version, we are talking about 35%.
Inside, there are a few changes, but not too many, fortunately. In fact, we do not find a new generation of print media systems. The latter has faced his share of criticism since its inception and has been plagued by problems. On the other hand, the system still exists in the 2022 Jetta is still working properly.
And that’s not to say we don’t need to deal with the new system’s touch controls. With that, the clock is ticking.
Alternatively, each Jetta now comes with a heated steering wheel and a digital display pole. We have also improved the fabric of the seats, which can also be covered with leather or leatherette.
Behind the wheel, we discover… Jetta. Do not look down on me. This model is full of features and provides a well-balanced driving experience.
New machines make their presence feel like we see more life under the hood, but the difference is still not bad. We really appreciate comfort and sound restraint. And like most Volkswagen products, you can push the machine without fear of being hit by the sea when the roads are twisting in front of you; The jetta attaches itself well to the pavement and gives its driver a sense of confidence.
If there is a downside, it is an eight-speed automatic transmission function. In gentle driving it is okay, but when you expect a quick response to the crash, the delay in flight time is irritating. This can be adjusted in two ways; by switching to individual mode and selecting the correct gear before overheating or any maneuver that requires immediate action.
Other drugs? Select the manual transmission version.
In general, the experience is more positive than negative.
Part of GLI
In the case of the GLI, the changes are much smaller; re-touch grille and shield, larger exhaust pipe, as well as sound adjusted to this height. The wheels are the same, such as the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine power, which is 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
A six-speed manual transmission is common when the automatic transmission of the DSG and seven speeds are provided at this time. In his case, he is unaware of laziness.
Inside, the adjustment is also subtle and, among other things, a new steering wheel, similar to the new GTI, with a new gear selector and red accents.
Experience, in fact, is driving. In fact, the Jetta GLI is one of the best versions on the market if you love sedans and enjoy driving. Power, balance, brakes, all with this car. And not so much, as in some examples. Scales, I will return to this, defines this product.
It is rare that I find myself behind the wheel of a car and that I am contemplating a purchase; the idea comes to mind every time I drive a Jetta GLI.
And as you can see from the price range, it is very difficult to find the best quality / price / performance ratio in the market. Evidence? When I got home, I flew through the Hyundai Elantra N. Yes, this product is more powerful and looks like it has been suspended significantly, but it is approximately $ 10,000 more. And the Honda Civic Not new? More expensive and less powerful.
The standard Jetta version comes in three modes; Trendline ($ 22,895 and $ 24,295), Comfortline ($ 25,895 and $ 27,295), as well as Highline ($ 29,295). Note that when there are two model prices, it refers to manual transmission, then automatic. For the second version, it is possible to add the Sport package for $ 1,400.
The latter adds a sports bumper, solar roof, 10-color weather light, as well as suspension to benefit from more intense settings.
As for the equipment of each dialect, let us avoid the endless list, but keep in mind a few key points. The base section comes with heated seats and steering wheel, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, and automatic front brakes. By changing the Comfortline model, the rims range from 16 to 17 inches, we take advantage of wireless access and it is possible to connect wirelessly to the two programs mentioned above. Going to GLI, that’s another story. The model comes to all of us for $ 31,895 and $ 33,295, respectively, depending on the transmission. And when we mention that all of them exist, they include flexible suspension, multi-limb rear, small rear sliding variant, sport exhaust, 18-inch wheels, and seventh-generation Golf brakes. R (which provides front ventilation discs).
Very interesting, especially from a price point, we repeat.
Here are the estimated fuel consumption for Jetta 2022: 8.0 liters in the city, 5.5 on the highway and 6.9 in total (manual transmission); 7.7 liters in the city, 5.7 on the highway and an average of 6.8 (direct transmission).
Jetta represents an impressive purchase for retirees who are still interested in getting a car. We can talk at length about his position in diversity and about the importance of his competitors. He’s not the best of his group, but he’s certainly not the worst.
Its overall balance plays out, as well as its excellent fuel consumption. Fans of Volkswagen products are already being sold because of it. The company has a job to do to inform others and it knows it.
