Japanese car manufacturer Nissan recently announced that it will stop producing Datsun cars, less than a decade after re-launching this historic brand. “Nissan focuses on key models and components (…).

Production of Datsun Redi-GO will cease (…) ”in India, according to a report from Nissan. The country was the last to produce Datsun, Nissan if it had already stopped producing in 2020 in Indonesia and Russia following a major international reform program. Sales will continue as equipment continues, and after-sales services will be maintained for vehicles on the road, Nissan added.

Nissan had already buried Datsun for the first time in 1981, before deciding in 2013 to re-launch it as a low-cost brand in developing countries. The Datsun brand originated in the 1910s, and its first model was launched in 1931. Two years later, the brand was purchased by what would become a Nissan. The brand gained popularity in the 1950s and 1960s.
