Fiat is not the leader in the Brazilian market by chance. The Italian brand continues to be the most innovative of all and this is not only about the cars it launches, but also the marketing methods it uses. Fiat’s new idea is related to the Cronos sedan, which takes the “cat” and becomes the best seller in the segment.
The Fiat Cronos 2023 is an example of how to make lemonade out of lemons. The compact sedan has a smaller wheelbase than its direct rivals Chevrolet Onix Plus and Volkswagen Virtus. These sedans are getting more expensive as they were placed above the Cronos. In that line follows the Hyundai HB20S.
While the three Onix Plus, HB20S and Virtus are trying to take a place in the sun with the Japanese Honda City, Toyota Yaris and Nissan Versa, Fiat Cronos does the opposite. It looks at the entry level of compact sedans, which is dominated by the soon to be discontinued model, the Volkswagen Safari.
Fiat Cronos 2023 has five versions between R$74,000 and R$93,000. Therefore, it manages to stand out to customers looking for a cheap price (class B family cases and even software drivers) and also has the cheapest automatic sedan on the market, about R$8,000 less than the automatic Onix Plus.

But where is the real “leap cat”? It is precisely in the idea of taking advantage of the sales crisis in Argentina to not let the Cronos “ball” fall. The Fiat Cronos is the best-selling model in Argentina. neighboring industry, due to the drop in demand, Fiat will maintain high production of the Cronos to sell it in Brazil.
This comes at a time when other automakers are investing heavily in the SUV segment. But, if the sedans are left aside, Fiat will take the opportunity to “beat” Cronos sales. With a large trunk of 525 litres, the Volkswagen Gol-priced Fiat Cronos can give app drivers (Uber, 99 etc.) a chance to switch models.
If all goes well, Fiat intends to double Cronos sales in a short period of time. In July, the Fiat Cronos finished in 4th place in sales with 3,839 units. It was behind Toyota Corolla (4,035), VW Voyage (4,776) and Chevrolet Onix Plus (8,135).
