Ferrari has officially unveiled its 296 GT3, introduced to replace the venerable 488 GT3 during Grand Touring competition, at the 24 Hours of Trade-Francorchamps event. Announced last year, the Ferrari 296 GT3 has already hit the track during testing at the Italian manufacturer’s private track, in Fiorano, with Alessandro Pier Guidi and Andrea Bertolini at the wheel. This new GT3 is the result of a collaboration between Prancing Horse and Oreca. ” We have already received many compliments for the car “, rejoiced Antonello Coletta, director of sporting activities for Ferrari in GT, with whom we spoke in Sebring (Florida) on the sidelines of the 1000 Miles of Sebring, the first round of the 2022 WEC season. However, the most important thing is that it goes fast. We think we have done a good job on this. » The Italian manufacturer is already spoiled for choice when it comes to using this car in competition, having received several requests from its regular customers (AF Corse, Risi Competizione, Kessel Racing, etc.) or others who have not yet raced in Ferrari.

While waiting for the first laps in official competition, to emulate the widespread 488 GT3, Ferrari has specified the technical characteristics of the 296 GT3. The engine that powers the beautiful Italian is a 120° six-cylinder V developing around 600 horsepower, with turbos inside the V, “for the benefit of balancing and lowering the center of gravity”, according to Ferrari. The gearbox is 6-speed and arranged in reverse. Clutch actuation, fully electric, is now done on the steering wheel.
Finally, regarding the chassis of the 296 GT3, Ferrari shows that its components have been designed and optimized to facilitate and accelerate interventions during pit stops. A solid point that we can’t wait to discover in action during the first race of the 296 GT3.
