F1 Being a pioneer in Alpine is a “carrot” for Doohan

Jack Doohan realizes that having his name on the short list of drivers approached to replace Fernando Alonso has increased his motivation tenfold.

Three-time Formula 2 winner Doohan will be in Hungary this week, where he will be evaluated by Alpine alongside Antonio Giovinazzi and Nyck de Vries. However, it will be a matter of time before the team confirms Pierre Gasly as Esteban Ocon’s teammate for next season.

That said, this week’s test and talk of Doohan’s Alpine ownership for 2023 is encouraging the young Aussie to challenge himself.

“Honestly, I’m glad I’m not forgotten because there are discussions and obviously I want to do well, that’s for sure.”he told Monza recently.

“I know I can be Alpine in 2023, so for me it’s a carrot to push myself to work hard. It’s not that I didn’t work hard before, but I need to show my maturity, that I have my head on my shoulders and I need to show that I can put it all together on Grand Prix weekend »

“If it doesn’t win, it’s fourth place for a car capable of finishing fourth, and I don’t have a lot of pressure, so I can enjoy what I’m doing, and I love it.”, adds Doohan.

“So I want to find my full potential and enjoy this wonderful time”he concludes.
