We had already tested the top version of the bus with four cylinders and 310 hp. At that time, two VZ letters (for veloz, fast) stood at the top of the Cupra Formentor. We do not go wild, but very unique. After all, the VZ5 is limited to only 7,000 units worldwide. Time? Yes, Formentor has been given a 2.5-liter Audi 5-liter model for this small version. Yes, dear friends of Audi, you are right, VZ5 delivers 390 hp and sprints up to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds. You realized that in a very interesting way, but most customers probably don’t care. After all, the torque remains unchanged at 480 Nm and the sprint value is ten times faster than in the RS Q3 if you use factory measurements.
But the advanced Formentor and the five-cylinder story engine under the hood are not just too fast on the automatic. Thanks to the torque split, it has the same technology as the Golf R and Audi RS 3, which also performs well in the hilly country.
But it doesn’t have to be a slippery slope, because even if you choose the ESP Sport layout, the Formentor VZ5 goes to the limits a bit before the ESP and then holds back – based on the motto: “Grip, grip, Hoo! This fits perfectly with the front axle. consistent, which even when cornering at regular intervals reaches its limit of grip. Especially in Cupra mode, the VZ5 allows it all out. 2.5 liters is fully stored.
As is well known, the fact that the five pointer is a balm for the ear, especially under load change, is nothing new. The engine sound gives you goosebumps even during severe exhaust gas values, especially load changes and launch controls are good movies for gas waste. We find it a pity that the DSG sometimes hesitates between gear changes or engages them too harshly, which can be emphasized by the coordinated dynamics.
But let’s also briefly talk about the rapid decline of the Spaniard, who is well fed. Here, too, the Catalan is convinced by its Akebono system of six pistols, which can be effectively reduced and even after several rapid turns, fading reduces the fun.
Interior: An eye attraction
The interior is also very sporty, because the engine can start by pressing a button on the sports balance. This is also where the mode controller is installed, here you can switch to Cupra mode by pressing the power button, where the Cupra Formentor muscles are then pressed to a greater extent.
Special bucket seats, which the carbon back surface immediately attracts, also provide great cinema. This is complemented by full side support and essential long-distance comfort.
We are not too surprised by Formentor’s high-profile sentiment, as this has already received applause from VZ Extra.
We find the infotainment solution unsatisfactory and, in part, support systems that are plagued by electrical problems. Because despite the slow execution commands, the interior temperature control panel and volume of the sound system have not yet been illuminated. Where there will be air updates for infotainment problems, you will also be able to check out the unlit features for long evenings.
On the other hand, the head room and the foot room are exactly the same for a car in this class, and this also applies to trunk volume.
And finally, of course, this also counts in price, because the Cupra Formentor VZ5 will set the value, if even increase, thanks to its smaller version.
Conclusion:
The Cupra Formentor VZ5 shows that it clearly covers the VZ with Audi’s fifth wheel. Not only is it more agile, it is also more fun to drive thanks to better technology. It is not necessary to discuss the cause or price, because such models are always subject to a major pricing policy.
